Silverene Looms Favorite In Beulah Feature Event Cordesco and Spicers Sophomore Reported Ready for 1957 Debut By PAT CAUDILL BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio. May 11. — Racing settles into stride here Monday as the first full week of activity gets underway for this 19-day meeting. Racing secre-tery Owen E. Pons has carded an eight-race program headed by the Lincoln Hotel Purse. Slated as the seventh race, the top event is an allowance affair designed for three-year-olds and has drawn seven at the distance of six furlongs for a purse of ,500. W. Cordesco and R. E. Spicers Silverene, an altered son of Silver Bull— Sweet Irene, will be making his first outing of the year and can be expected to be the strongest backed of the group by the wagering public. Winner of three of six starts as a two- i year-old, Silverene has turned in some Jrittip morning trials here and is reported ! razor sharp. He will be handled by the capable reinsman, Harry Holcomb, and is , one of the topweighted of the field having 111 pounds as his burden. Equally weighted with Silverene are C. Hayre and S. Teagues L. E. Creech to be ridden by Billy Clark. F. G. Murphys Colquitt Stables Tachometer with Paul Ward as the pilot, and If. K. Essigs Misty Red to be handled by Norman Hart. With 110 pounds each will be R. J. Hamon and L. Christmans Victory Dream and N. J. Giar-danas Miss Berea. The latter will be ridden by jockey Jose Pelaez. The lightest weight of the field and the only remaining entrant is W. L. Tuttles Sky Mom who gets in with 106 pounds with William Hubbard as the pilot. A band of ,750 claimers make up the field for the sixth race, a six-furlong dash for a ,200 purse and here Mrs. L. Frys Double Hustle with John Bero in the irons appears to hold a slight edge over his foes. Keenest competition can be expected to come from such as C. Bachelors I Love Betty. A. E. Knapps A Plus and Mr. and Mrs. H. Ritters Easy Silver. -Post time for the first race will be 2:30 p. m. EST.
