The featured Sportsmans Park Handicap and other races were run over a very muddy track and under threatening skies. Rock Pilot, owned by the G. and H. Stable and trained by George Ellis, proved slightly the best when he lasted to win by a narrow margin from the favored Speed i Rouser. with Next Page taking third place. The distance was one and a sixteenth miles, and Rock Pilot paid 0.40. His share . of the 5,000 purse was ,750. His win- J ning margin was a head. A field of eight sought honors in the j race, and Rock Pilot, who had previously been in the money in handicaps a couple of times early in the meeting, set the pace. Down the backstretch Rock Pilot, under light wraps, continued to show the way, with Speed Rouser next and Good Gesture and Tussle Patch vying for third position. Nearing the stretch turn, a new threat for the leaders loomed in Next Page, and that one managed to head Speed Rouser and get within a half-length of Rock Pilot as they straightened out for home. At this juncture it appeared as if Speed Rouser. carrying top weight of 122 pounds, was through, but he came again the middle of the track to pass Next Page in the last sixteenth, and with Howard Craig riding vig-ously, was gaining on the 111-pound weighted Rock Pilot despite his crushing package. Tussle Patch and Good Gesture tired in the stretch while both King Bebe and Jimmy tlie One finished well. Rock Pilots time for the distance was 1:533. Meaux Continues Winning Pace Jockey Clarence Meaux continued his steady riding here when he steered two of the first six winners. He took the opening event with Blossom Stables three-year-old filly, Graces Star, and came back to win the third with Count Domingo. Graces Star, making her first start of the meeting, came down the outside in the stretch in the opener to win by two and one-half lengths from Rebel Bandito, whose jockey chose the rail for the final run. Uncle Pete, piloted by Howard Craig, was the second horse in a Daily Double that paid 6.60. Uncle Pete beat Argufy in a drive. Meaux had Count Domingo down in front by eight lengths in the one-mile third race while jockey Bob Baird rode one of his few winners this week in getting Demande-Mor home ahead of a band of two-year-olds in the fourth. Flashy Token, who recently established a new track record for the half-mile distance, was the public choice and finished third. Total Traffic, coupled with At Will and ridden by Jack Fieselman. had no trouble taking the fifth race, while Lake Drive, the favorite, was floundering in last place. The sixth went to Revetment, ridden by Jerry Truman. Revetment drew the bulk of the public support and beat the second choice. Varsity, by a good margin. —J. J. MURPHY
