J. MURPHY WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood. HI., May 11.— The Balmoral meeting of 30 days duration will open at refurbished Washing- ton Park Monday with the running of a nine -race program. The headline event will be the Coronet Stakes for three-year-old fillies that will be having its third run-e ning. It will be decided over the six fur-5 longs distance and the topweighted miss in the event is the consistent Lori-EI, owned by Michael Soto and A. E. Berke, two Chi-e cago businessmen. Lori-EI, who has drawn the rail position in the nine-horse field will carry 121 pounds. Each of the others will have 115 pounds up. Lori-EI. recent winner of the Kentucky Oaks, will be rid-e den by Lois Cook and is expected to be the favorite. Interiors of both clubhouse and grandstand now are glass-enclosed and air-conditioned to provide complete temperature control, no matter what the weather conditions for the day might be. June 8; the 5,000 added Joliet Stakes, for two-year-olds at five and one-half furlongs. June 12, and the 0,000 added Balmoral Turf Handicap, to be decided over the mile and three-sixteenth distance on closing day. Saturday. June 15. For the 10 stakes the management is offering a total of 55,000. Patrons will note a number of improvement at Washington Park this season. The | most important is the "all weather" club-| house and grandstand interiors. Both enclosures are completely conditioned to provide air cooling for the racegoers in warm i weather and can be well heated when the mercury drops. This means comfort for I the fans under any sort of climatic condi-j tions. New lighting fixtures have been j placed throughout the grandstand and in-I teresting murals decorate the walls. Other : improvements are in aluminum gooseneck rail for the main course and a new auto gate at the extreme north end of the track. Opposing Lori-EI in the Coronet will be Wilton Stables Euphony. The victory, at the expense of such top-rated fillies as Jota Jota, Nile Lilly and Great Pride, stamped the 00 yearling sales purchase as a filly with both class and speed. Earlier, Lori-EI ran second to Jota Jota in the Ashland Stakes and was third behind the colts Ky. Roman and Cosmic Force in the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn. This season she has earned 4,125. Dales Delight comes off a third behind Lori-EI and Pillow Talk in the Kentucky Oaks, the seventh start this season for the miss. She had won two Hialeah sprints during the winter. Last year she annexed her first three outings at Gulfstream Park before finishing fourth in the Singing Tower Stakes. Jodi makes her Chicagoland bow Monday, the fleet Johns Joy filly coming off a five-race Florida campaign which found her a winner twice. Her latest triumph was recorded March 15 in a sprint and she turned back Iberia and Inquisitive easily. Euphony, a full-sister to Arlington Futurity winner Royal Note, made her only start of the 1957 season a winning one May 3 at Churchill Downs. Bluebility is also making her 1957 bow. Last year she managed a single victory in eight starts but did finish third behind Splendored and Romanita in the Princess Pat Stakes at Washington Prk. Alice Van-meter returns to the strip where she asspi-ciously debuted during last seasons regular Washington Park Meeting. She started only once more as a juvenile, running second to Love Call here.
