Louisville. Ky.. May 11. —Munchausen, a five-year-old Mighty Story-sired stallion, who races under the silks of E. C. Roths Rothmore Farm, sped to a clever victory here this warm afternoon in the fifteenth renewal of the 0,000 Louisville aHndicap before a crowd of more than 22,000 spectators. Responding to a well-judged ride from diminutive Lois Cook, Munchausen reached the finish of the one mile and one-sixteenth stakes with siv lengths to spare over his nearest rival. Holtsinger and Mclllvains Bernburgoo. Sixth Victory This Year Mi*s. Irving Gushens Star Rover, the starting highweight at 120 pounds, finished third, a length off Bernburgoo and two lengths before Walmac Farms Has-seyampa. T. Alie Grissoms Big Sweep and Invalidate, favored entry, could do no better than seventh and last, respectively, in the field of nine. Munchausen, favorably weighted at 109 pounds, raced the middle distance over the fast track in 1:44%. He was not highly regarded and those backing him received 5 to 1. The Louisville triumph, the second at the Derby course this spring and sixth of the year, was worth a net of ,000 to the Rothmore Stable stalwart. Munchausen, well placed from the outset, then moved to the Grissom colt and opened up a clear advantage as the latter chucked it. Dark Toga dropped out of serious contention at that juncture while Star Rover began a bold bid from third. During the run to the wire Munchausen widened on the field and was an easy winner while Bernburgoo came from well back to battle it out with Star Rover for the place. During the last eighth mile the latter pair waged a sharp battle with Bernburgoo proving best. Star Rover was not under strong pressure to beat Hasseyampa out for third although the Walmac Farm horse was going stoutly through the final furlong. In post race ceremonies. Downs chairman of the board William Veeneman presented owner Roth with a handsome silver trophy, symbolic of Munchausens Louisville Handicap accounting. T. Alie Grissom s Thievery, well ridden by Johnny Ralph Adams, raced to a well-deserved decision in the six-furlong Whiskery Purse, defeated Walmac Farms favored Vagabond King by a length and one-quarter. Ernest Lanes Brujaria ran third another length and one -quarter back and a length and one-half before Baylor O. Hickmans Royal Jester, fourth in the field of eight starters. Thievery, a good class winner at the Keeneland meeting, took up 120 pounds under the Whiskery conditions and completed his winning jaunt in 1:1125. He was second choice in the straight tote pool at 2 o to 1. Thievery Takes Early Lead Young Adams, leading rider at the Downs, hustled Thievery to the front early and, after his mount entered the stretch with what appeared a safe margin, drew his whip. Vagabond King made a game but futile effort to reach the Detroit-owned victor but his bid fell short and the best he could do was hold Brujaria safe for the place. Royal Jester came from well back to earn the fourth part of the purse. Ernest H. Lanes Margaretta. successful on Derby Day in the Debutante Stakes, came right back for another victory in capturing the Triumph Purse. The Lane filly, a daughter of Beau Max and La Mar-ga, had the saddle services of apprentice Vidal Guajardo and coasted under the wire with a three-length margin at the end of five furlongs. Irving Gushens Bumpy Road. Lafayette Stakes winner at Keeneland. ran second in the juvenile dash, beating Clifford Lusskys Casting by a length and one-quarter. The Estate of Sam E. Wilson Jr.s Sams Ship-ahoy was along for fourth. Margaretta posted her fifth score in eight engagements, stepping to the final marker in a creditable :592,b. She was the 1 3-to-10 favorite over her nine rivals. Ralph Lowes Hatibound, handled by Johnny Delahoussaye, became a double winner at the spring meeting, decisively trimming a capacity field of three-year-olds in the six and one-half furlongs Him-yar Purse. Hatibound went to the front approaching the stretch and was five lengths before Leo Caillouettes Here Come Joe at the wire. Mrs. W. E. Smiths Bushien finished third another two lengths away and a length on Sam Hill Farms Dip Chick. Hatibound, clocked in l:184/5. went to the post at 8-to-5. Bernard J. Baxs Anivram, handled by Bobby Dever, was best of the 12 platers meeting in the six-furlong opner and James L. Paddocks Yankee Do, ridden by John Ralph Adams, beat 10 other useful three-year-olds in the one mile second
