Change in Speed Ratings - Effective with the racing; of January 1, 1952, the speed ratings appearing . in DAILY RACING FORM past performances are based on a comparison of each horses running time with the track record. The track record will receive a standard rating of 100 thus, a horse equaling the record will have a speed j rating of 100. For each one-fifth second slower than the track record, one point is deducted. Therefore, the rating for a horse running his race two and one-fifth j seconds slower than the track record receives a speed rating of 89 100 minus 11. EXAMPLE j Track record 1:10 Rating figure 100 I Winners time 1:10V Rating 99 . v Time of second horse l:10 97 Time of third horse 1:11 95 j Time of fourth" horse 1:11 93 Time of fifth horse 1:11 91 One point the equivalent of one-fifth second is deducted from the rating for each length the horse is beaten. Thus, a horse beaten four lengths in a six-furlong race run in 1:11 rating of 100 where the track record is 1:10 is timed - 1 in 1:11, receiving a speed rating of 91. Where a horse breaks, the track record, his speed rating will exceed the standard rating of 100 by one point for each one-fifth second faster than the track record. Thus, if the record is 1:10 and a horse is timed in 1:09, his speed rating will be 102.
