Bradley Had First Starter in American Derby 50 Years Ago WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., Aug. 21. Its 50 years since the late Col. Edward R. Bradley started his first horse in the American Derby, a race he was destined later to win twice. Bradley was represented by Bad News in "the 1903 renewal and that runner finished eighth in the 19-horse field. The race was won by The Picket, with Claude second and Ber-nays third. Bradleys Boot to Boot won the 1926 renewal and Black Helen was victorious in the 1935 running.
