Dismiss Appeals Against Loss Of Purse by Doped Horses SYDNEY, Australia, Aug. 21 The Australian Jockey Club today dismissed appeals against the loss of prize money won by doped horses. The appeals resulted from the doping of the English mare, Tarien, in the Doncaster Handicap last April 4 at the Randwick frack. The club rejected claims that the drug, nikethamide, also known as coramine, could not improve a horses performance. A number of scientists argued that nikethamide might not improve a race horses speed and might even retard it. Tarien finished first in the Doncaster and his triumph, cost Australian bookmakers heavily. The Jockey Club found that the horse had been drugged and disqualified him on May lx awarding the first place money to Triclinium.
