Gulf Stream Tops Great Lakes Field Isle of Bond, Cajole, Eight Others Vie at Randall With Shifty Invader From Detroit By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, Aug. 21. A well-balanced field of 11 three-year-olds have been named for the second running of the 0,000 added Great Lakes Stakes, the featured attraction here at beautiful Randall Park Saturday afternoon. The Cuyahoga Handicap No. 4 at one mile and one-half will also be up for decision and will precede the feature being run as the seventh race. The largest crowd of the meeting is expected to turn out. The Great Lakes has attracted the following:. Harvey W. Shaffers Black Coffee, Don Yates If Money, Mrs. Mary Hunters Cajole, I. J. Collins Fair Pilot, N. S. Scavas Mr. Skip, Steinberg and Kaplans Sir Hoop, Alex Bruscinos Country Gossip, Llongollen Farms First Endeavor, C. F. Wisecarvers Isle of Bond, Ralph A. Parachecks Gulf Stream, and Anthony Graffagninis McCreight. Excellent Detroit Record Gulf Stream is the only horse shipping in for the stake and must be accorded a slight edge. He brings an excellent record here from Detroit having most recently won the Ed McCuan Handicap last Saturday running against older horses. In that race Gulf Stream came from off the pace and after disposing of Dry Run held the speedy Whiffenpoof safely. His margin at the end of the mile and one-sixteenth was one length. That was the colts third Continued on Page Fifty-Four i 1 I Gulf Stream Tops Eleven In Great Lakes at Randall Isle of Bond, Cajole Ready for Shifty Foe From Detroit Scene Continued from Page One straight success. He won ty seven lengths over Caboose at Hazel Park on August 6 and before that defeated Golden Appollo by a half length at MRA course. His record for the season shows six victories in 23 starts which has meant over 3,000 to his owner. Jockey P. A. Ward will come in from the Motor City to ride, the son of Wait A Bit. Isle of Bond, who is trained by James V. Stewart and will be ridden by Joe Servis, has an excellent chance of upsetting Gulf Stream. He came from far back to defeat Big Money by a length and one-half, winning handily. Jockey Servis never needed the use of his whip at any time. His time for the six panels was 1:14 over a slow track. Isle of Bonds other winning race this season was scored at Pimlico when he hung it on Uncle Ev by a nose. He then shipped over to Delaware Park where he met Jamie K. and some of the other top three-year-olds that were at Stanton this spring. His best race at that course was a third to the speedy Mohammedan. Isle of Bond was only beaten two lengths closing willingly through the stretch. Mr. Skip will be piloted by Mike Caf-farella and is accorded a good chance in the Great Lakes. He defeated many of these same horses in his last race when at this same distance he beat First Endeavor by two lengths. That was Mr. Skips third winning race of the season. He broke his maiden at Bowie this spring and followed that score up with a victory at Pimlico in allowance company. He should have won his first race here at the meeting, but during the race was bothered by Hot Cakes who was running loose and Mr. Skip lost all chance. That event was taken by First Endeavor. Lloyd Gentry will saddle the only filly in the race, Cajole. Under the conditions of the contest she will be asked to carry 112 pounds which will include jockey Nazareth. Her local races have been very good and she brings a three-race winning skein into the Great Lakes with her. The streak got under way at Arlington Park on July 9 when she beat Good Call by almost two lengths under Kenny Church, and she has won her only two Randall Park outings. On opening day she defeated Rico Rancho by three lengths and came back at a mile and one-sixteenth to best Mrs. G. R. by two and one-half lengths on August 1. Cajole is hy Revoked and was bred by -Hal Price Headley. Country Gossip has looked good on occasion and tomorrow may be one of his better days. Jockey Tommy Barrow is coming here from Hazel Park" to handle the colt for trainer Stan Lipiec and he must be given an outside chance of a winning performance.
