East St. Louis Handicap Lures Eleven Sprinters Obstinate Si Staunch Favorite To Down Mary H. and Lucky Lable By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., Aug. 21. Saturday night will attract one of the largest crowds of the current meeting to witness the battle of 11 crack sprinters in the East St. Louis Handicap and the running of eight other races, with the gathering wending homeward near the mid-night hour. Tom McCartys seven-year-old Obstinate Si, winner of the St. Louis Handicap last week-end, is the top man under racing secretary Jack Klucinas ratings with an assignment of 117 pounds. He looms as a staunch favorite with Melvin Duhon as his pilot. The. public also is expected to support C. M. Thompson and P. Goodwins Lucky Lable, who captured the Inaugural Handicap, and William C. Weants Mary H., victorious in her last outing in the Du Quoin Purse. The favorite, who is a big, fast gelded son of Alaking, never left the issue in doubt last Saturday when he led the field from shortly after the start and won handily by better than two lengths over M. White-books Bat Girl The latter gets a few pounds handicap from her rival tomorrow night, but the two already mentioned appear more dangerous than does she. Mary H. winged to the. front and never was headed while being timed in 1:12 her last essay, which was two-fifths of a second better than was registered by Obstinate Si in taking the St. Louis Handicap. She carries a nominal 109 pounds and will be ridden by Joe Dyer. The contest appears to center on the speed merchants of the field, with Lucky Lable and the three-year-old All Tilly, owned by Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Holman, distinctly dangerous if able to gain the lead away from the gate. All Tilly, who is a four-year-old daughter of Holdall, is respectfully treated by Klucina with a 112-pound impost, which actually makes her the highweight on the scale. She defeated a number of the younger .contestants, including Lucky Lable, running a rapid five and one-half furlongs last Friday in the Spy Song Purse. Also in the field is an entry of R. J. Win-tergersts Sly Wink and Prandium, A. Schroeders Harry-Lou, W. Tabbytitels Lancaster Lady, W. C. Davison and L. B. Jeffers Babys Delight and H. C. Zellers Open Heir.
