Jack Jr. Wins Thrilling Feature at Randall Park Defeats Mondaval in Mansfield Purse; Favored Euclid Runs Third RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, Aug. 21. Mrs. Elizabeth Mucklers Jack Jr. scored a thrilling three - quarters of a length decision over Mondaval in the featured Mansfield Purse here this afternoon. The favorite, Euclid, was third another length and one-half back and a length better than Elaine Ruth at the end of the six furlongs. Jack Jr. was nicely ridden by apprentice Ray Zanelli and paid 0.80, running the contest in 1:11 flat over the fast track. A crowd of 5,387 attended the races this afternoon. Through the feature, two favorites had come home on top. Jack Jr. was first out of the gate, but dropped back as Elaine Ruth moved through to gain a clear advantage before the first quarter. Mondaval was second with Jack Jr. third and Crownlet in fourth position. Euclid was next to last while on the outside of horses. Racing into the far turn, Elaine Ruth increased her margin to two lengths with Mondaval still in second position, Crown-let third, Spunky fourth and the ultimate winner fifth while between horses. Euclid had now dropped into last position as Kinsman rallied briefly and moved past the Augustus colorbearer. Coming into the stretch, Elaine Ruth swung somewhat wide as she was beginning to tire and at the furlong marker had her lead cut to a half length with Mondaval moving up very hapidly on the outside. Jack Jr.. was beginning to make his bid while also on the outside of the field. Euclid was still last at the furlong marker. Just inside the eighth pole, Elaine Ruth called it quits for the afternoon and Mondaval moved past to gain the lead, but that was short lived, for at the sixteenth marker Jack" Jn flew by to wrest command "under Zanellis urging. Meanwhile, Euclid was picking up horses rapidly while on the extreme outside. In the final strides to the wire, Jack Jr. was drawing clear of Mondaval, but the latter had plenty left to hold the onrush-ing Euclid, who served notice that he will be a hard horse to beat in the Randall Park Handicap next Saturday and in the Buckeye the following week. The winning son of Bold and Bad was scoring his fifth tally of the year in 18 starts and has now earned over 2,000 for his St. Louis owner. Mrs. N. D. Menkens Bright Fate provided the third winner of the afternoon for William Hartack when, as a team, they defeated Full Circle by three parts of a length in the sixth race, which was at three-quarters of a mile. Admirals Wave was third, another four lengths in arrears. The winner paid .40 as the second choice and was timed in a speedy 1:11. Bright Fate was first to show in front and never relinquished her lead at any time during the six furlongs. At the quarter she was a head in front of Carmelette, but going to the far turn shook loose of the Hopkins color-bearer and was showing the way by a length and one-half, with Carmelette still second a head before Nancy Bayne. Shady Nook was fourth and. Full Circle fifth. Racing into the stretch, Bright Fate was in front by two lengths, with Full Circle having moved into second position and Shady Nook third, with Admirals Wave in fourth position. In the final sixteenth of a mile the ultimate winner tired somewhat and Hartack had to go to work with his stick, but he held the filly together nicely and Full Circle and apprentice Lou Syfrig had to settle for the runner-up position.
