. Dressens Giants Is Dead Found Grammatically Okay BROOKLYN, N. Y., Aug. 21 UP. The Brooklyn Eagle, backed by the New York Board of Education, said today that manager Charley Dressen of the Dodgers was gramatically correct when he said recently, "The Giants is dead." A board spokesman, pointed out to the Eagle that the term "Giants" refers to an entity, a single body. "Youd say The United States is the greatest nation in the world, not are the greatest nation," he said. "Of course, if one member of the Giants were alive, like Sal Maglie, you could not say the Giants is dead," he added with a smile. "But every member of this entity is dead, hence the Giants is, too."
