It was not until midway of the final bend that he settled into his best stride and set sail for the top pair. i. J. Collins Common Cause, one of the well-supported entrants, also was rallying mildly, but his bid failed to develop. Responding gamely to Nick Shuks urging, Bank Coal made a strong effort to dispose of Pass Plays bid, but the latter was not to be denied. He gave his all under Stevensons urging and nosed out Bank Coal. Again U. closed with his usual rush, but failed to get to the top pair while being beaten a length and three-quarters for second position. Sam Boulmetis, leading rider of the meeting, completed a saddle triple with his success astride Brookfield Farms Influence , in the sixth race.
