Pashpie Gives Hartack Triple at Randall Park Mrs. M. Burkes Racer Becomes Fifth Choice to Win on Program By RONALD KRANCER $ Staff Correspondent RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, Aug. 24. Mrs. Mabel Burkes Pashpie, ridden by William Hartack, who was scoring a triples took the featured Woodland IJarm Purse by a length and three-quarters over Miss Tinka, who, in turn, was another three lengths before I. J. Collins Reaping Love. The winning daughter of Apache paid .80 as the fifth winning choice of the afternoon and turned in a sharp 1:11 for the six furlongs. A fine Monday gathering of 5,560 attended the sport. Deeside broke the best in the Woodland with Miss Tinka showing second, being followed by Frenabilbepa, Sailors Choice, Pashpie and Reaping Love. As the field streaked up the backstretch, Deeside was a head in front of Miss Tinka, who was right alongside. Frenabilbepa was third, with Sailors Choice fourth and the eventual " victress in fifth position some six lengths off the front end. Racing into the far turn Miss Tinka moved up to gain a head advantage over Deeside and Pashpie had moved along into fourth spot a half length in back of Frenabilbepa who was still third. Burkes Racer Becomes Fifth Choice to Win on Program Continued from Page One beginning to draw clear of the tiring Dee-side and led by a length and one-half at the furlong marker with Pashpie on the outside in third position another head in arrears. Just above the sixteenth marker the favorite shot to the front without any help from Hartacks stick and she increased her lead with each stride the rest of the journey, winning very handily. Miss Tinka held sway over Reaping Love who was closing some ground while on the inside. Pashpie was winning her sixth race of the year in 28 starts and she has now earned over 2,000 for her owner. Most of her victories were chalked up this winter while at the Fair Grounds and this was her first winning race of the Randall meeting iii six attempts. Apprentice Hartacks other victories were scored with Set the Table in the fifth race and Jof ield in the second event. The youngster has now won 63 races thus far at the meeting and is within easy striking distance of the all-time Randall high of 72 scored by Howard Craig in 1952. M. Carters Inanabout, under an excellent ride by Bill Carstens, lasted by three parts of a length over Privilege in the sixth race. Repeat Mandate was third, another length and one-quarter back. Inanabout paid .80 and ran the mile and one-sixteenth in 1:45. Sun Cross was first to show in front at the start, but Deb-Bits moved up fast to gain the lead racing to the clubhouse turn. As the field straightened away for the long run up the backstretch, Deb-Bits was in front by a length and one-half over Inanabout, who, in turn, was two lengths be-fof Privilege. Midway up the backstretch, Inanabout moved around Deb-Bits and was leading by a head after the first half mile. Privilege was still third, another length and one-half back and a half length in front of Locadah. Going to the far turn, Inanabout led by a length while saving ground. Privilege had how Amoved "past the tiring Deb-Bits and was second. Turning for home, Inanabout drew clear by a length and. one half, but, in the final sixteenth, she needed all her jockeys help to keep her going as Privilege was beginning to close the gap. Mrs. Jane P. Kriegers Set the Table moved to the extreme Outside on the final bend and, closing with a fine- burst of speed, was up to capture the fifth race by a half length over one of the rank outsiders, the Brown Hotel Stables Wise Billing. Millies Jane was third, another neck in arrears, and a like margin in front of Blueonia. Set the Table was ridden by William Hartack, for his second tally of the afternoon, and paid .80 as the favorite. The fillys time for the six furlongs was 1:13. Immediately following the race, Amory L. Haskell, president of Monmouth Park, presented an oil painting of Three Rings to his owner, Mrs. Evelyn L. Hopkins. Three Rings was paraded past the stands and then brought into the winners enclosure. The gelding -was ridden by Marcus Pena and he was attired in the blue and red silks of the Cleveland sportswomman. The occasion of the presentation was Three Rings victory in the 1949 edition of the Monmouth Park Handicap. It has been the custom each season to make such a presentation to the winning owner of -the horse in that event.
