CANARY ISLAND, off well, was unable to keep up with the early leaders, but saved ground in the stretch and, forging to the front at midstretch, drew out near the end. BABYS PAL. was required to race very wide on the stretch turn, then made a, good move, but was not strong enough. FAST SHUFFLE lacked early speed and raced wide in the stretch, but was going well at the end. BORESSA closed much ground from a slow start. AMBI ABE was also going well at the end. SNOW PRINCE tired after racing to contention. DEPTH CHARGE headed the field nearing the stretch turn, then quit badly. JUDY FORAY had early speed. Scratched 98477 Babs Boy, 111. ROYAL STREAM, was well placed early and, after following KATHLEEN R. under restraint down the backstretch, took a short lead to shake off FORGOTTEN MISS and draw out when given free rein. FORGOTTEN MISS had fair early speed and made a race of it to the last furlong, then began to drop back KATHLEEN R. weakened and was doing her best to hold RUSTUM. The latter made up ground but showed a tendency to bear in during the stretch run. GALLANT D. failed to threaten. The others were outpaced. BARBARA L. improved her position between horses in the stretch run and was going well at the finish. LITTLE BOOKIE -dropped back early and made up considerable ground in the stretch. AMERICAN PLAN was used up making the pace and had little left. BEAMING LIGHT was going well at the finish. JIMMYS DOLL and TEXAS TILL tired in the last eighth. OFF AT 3:28 CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won handily; second and third driving. ROMAN SPY dashed up on the outside soon after the start, and getting to the front around the front turn, shook off MAJOR EVENT in the last eighth and won in clever fashion. MAJOR EVENT had good speed from the start, and while unable to challenge ROMAN SPY successfully, had no trouble holding BRIGHT LIBERTY. The latter was sluggish in the early running and did not really get going until the stretch was reached, then came strongly between horses. ATHENIAN showed a fair amount of early speed but appeared to falter near the finish. ALSAB ACE seemed to be in difficulty around the far turn but was going well at the end. AIR MAIL was steadied within striking distance of the pacemakers in the first half mile, then moved to the front entering the last furlong to pass NELLS BOY and STEAK BONE and was not menaced by CHALLCOTE in the final drive. CHALLCOTE was slow to begin and was outrun to the stretch, then came strongly well out from the rail and was gaining. STEAK BONE topped BILL BURKE around the far turn to take a short lead, but was immediately challenged by NELLS BOY and was unable to shake off the latter. NELLS BOY shewed good early speed and was required to ease slightly when AIR MAIL came over a trifle while taking command in the stretch. BILL BURKE tired. The others were outpaced. HIGH SCUD, off well, retained a forward position on the outside, although forced to lose considerable ground, then continued strongly in the middle of the track through the stretch to get to the front near the end and was under hard urging. RUHE saved ground while being outrun and, cutting to the inside in the last sixteenth, found an opening to finish very fast next to the rail. SUB FLEET was rated close up and was in close quarters entering the final furlong, but went strongly to the end in a fine effort. MARK-YE-WELL began slowly and was not unduly rushed in the first part, then responded well in the last eighth and was full of run at the end. COFFEE MONEY raced close up under slight restraint and took a short lead an eighth out, but was not good enough when the real lest came. SUNNY DALE went evenly. CYCLOTRON raced on the inside of SECOND AVENUE while the latter was making the pace and saved ground until he began to tire. SECOND AVENUE had good speed for six furlongs. SUN DAVID was well placed early and raced next the rail throughout, but could make little impression on OH LEO in the last furlong. ELJAY was close enough from the start, but lost some ground in racing rather wide and was unable to offer a serious threat. INSEPARABLE, while unable to keep up with the pace, finished fairly well.
