Six Clash in Fort Edward Handicap Sickles Sound Is Likely Spa Choice Warbern Colt Has Work Cut Out for Him in Meeting r Ancestor and Out Point - SARATOGA, Saratoga Springs, N. Y., Aug. 24. The Fort Edward Handicap is the salient feature of the eight-race program down for decision Tuesday. This mile and one furlong test is for three-year-olds and upward for a purse of ,000. This event is under classified conditions and six were named, of which Dark Count and Market Level will race coupled as the Saxon Stable entry. Fort Edward is one of the historical landmarks of this area, a railroad center and despite its background not on the itinerary of the average tourist. The sextet named for the dash have not in their careers contributed greatly to racing history, and their respective owners failed to name them for the Saratoga Cup which is the final distance offering for the handicap division at this meeting. Dark Count is the top weight of the lot with 122 pounds and he will be the main reliance of the Saxon Stable with Hedley Woodhouse in the irons. Dark Count made his Saratoga debut in an overnight test two weeks back and finished fourth to Fly Wheel, Great Captain and Guardian n. but leading home Freedom Bell. He showed some early speed in that test but tired as if short and no doubt improvement can be anticipated in this offering. Ancestor Next in Weights Next to him in poundage is Ancestor from the Ogden Phipps menage who was under colors last week against a representative field. Ancestor raced close to the early pace but gave up the battle in the stretch run. He picks up one pound from that effort. Market Level, who will be second string to Dark Count in the dash, and Sickles Sound who races for the Warbern Stable of Maj. Albert Warner are treated alike in weights at 115 each. Market Level finished fifth in the race in which Ancestor and Freedom Bell were starters and although tiring, held on well. He could be the one to account for the purse. Out Point is from the Lazy F Ranch stable and in his most recent efforts has raced through the field, not only here but in New York and New Jersey. Previous to that he was pitted against some formidable competition on the flat but failed to establish any records. Freedom Bell, owned by Joseph M. Roebling, the Trenton, N. J., patron, rounds out the field. Freedom Bell will have the services of Charlie OBrien in the irons; he has ridden him several times. Freedom Bell found the racing strip and opposition at Monmouth Park to his liking on a couple of occasions, winning two allowance races, over distances of ground in commendable fashion. Sickles Sound will be the favorite for the event. He was whipped a nose last time out, and prior to that has some representative credentials to offer to the public. The Saxon Stable entry will likely rule next in demand. The secondary feature is the Mt. McGregor Purse for sprinters at six furlongs. This dash brings together ten starters of which Flickeress and Tommy Tiddler are newcomers to the scene. This shapes up as a wide open scramble.
