Chuckalong Seeks Third Straight Fairmount Win Has Popnjac and Bill Terry to Beat in Pontiac Purse Tonight By WILLIAM. C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., Aug. 24. Mrs. T. M. Pruetts Chuckalong will seek his third consecutive success over this course Tuesday night in the featured Pontiac Purse. This one mile and a sixteenth affair launches the third week of the current meeting and promises to be one of the most interesting and keenly contested events recently staged. Although Chuckalong is assured of starting as the favorite he will be facing his sternest task to date. Among his most dangerous foes are J. W. Coopers Popnjac and Bill Terry, Jr.s Gloaming, both winners in their last appearance; C. N. Salernos Hi Ante, W. Ruffs Rita Dugan and George McFarlands Frisky Jimmy. The field is then completed by W. W. Daums Bloody Battle, F. H. Wendells Heres Fay and A. LaBlances Moonblend. Frank Keene will ride Chuckalong, who will shoulder 118 pounds and attempt to concede from three to 13 pounds to his rivals. The six-year-old son of All Sweep and Masked May tallied his last two triumphs racing a sprint, but he has often shown equally gbod form at the distance of the Pontiac. He defeated Rita Dugan in handy manner by four lengths last week and ran the six furlongs in l:1215, one of the best times registered this meeting, i Rita Dugan, a seven-year-old Tetrarchal , mare, gains an eight-pound advantage j from Chuckalong. Robert Reeves will be her pilot and the manner in which she J i made up ground in the late stages against j Chuckalong suggests that the one mile and a sixteenth will be to her liking. Popnjack was claimed by Cooper for ,250 from a winning race last week. He had a very rough trip and was much the best. Popnjac .had previously been racing against much better company in Chicago and Detroit, but apparently his former owner was willing to drop him into a cheap class due to an apparent unsoundness. Hi Ante has been sprinting well and he rates high in this field. Some of his top efforts this summer have been over the longer routes. Frisky Jimmy defeated this calibre at River Downs and his lone race here, in which he was left at the post, can be disregarded. Gloaming is the speed of the race, and may take an early lead that will be hard to overcome. i ; I
