Illinois Notes FAIRMOTJNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., Aug. 24. Ralph Shaw announced this morning that he shipped his one-horse stable of Prides Niece to his farm in Benton, 111., where she will be turned out. Shaw will remain here and he has taken over the book of jockey Robert Reeves who is one of the more popular riders of the meeting. The largest crowd of the current meeting, numbering 10,432 night-owl patrons, attended the program conducted under the lights here on Saturday night, indicating that slow business conditions caused by numerous strikes in this area are returning to normal. Both the attendance and. mutuel handle steadily increased during the past week here and a gratifying 58,-036 was wagered on the nine races Saturday. Jockeys Charles Roberts and Earl Van-Hook shared the spotlight on Saturday with two winners each. Roberts was successful in the third race with C. N. Brewers Bay Twist and in the ninth event with Earl H. Moodys Angle Bar, while VanHook scored in the fifth with Arlington Farms Royal Luck and in the seventh with W. C. Davison and L. B. Jeffers Babys Delight. Trainer David Stone has a perfect record at the meeting of three starts and three victories. He tallied this third success Friday night sending out M. Moskowitz Columbus Bound in the sixth race. He previously saddled Moskowitz two-year-old Royal Rush for victories in two outings. Dan Howell, a "regular" at Fairmount Park for a, long number of years, has returned to the old stamping grounds with a stable of five head owned by various patrons. Howell shipped in from Washington Park where he recently lost the steady campaigner Als Bourbon with whom he has earned many pay-checks since bringing the veteran performer out .as a two-year-old. His charges here consist of Rowdy Robert, Old Dan, Coffeyville, Martin Whelan and Colin Did. Ralph W. Shaw reports that the Opossum gelding, Shaws Pride, is enjoying life at 13years of age as a pensioner on his farm about 100 miles south of here in Benton, 111. Shaws Pride started as an 00 claiming plater on this circuit in the early 40s, and became the pride of local horsemen when he developed his ability and invaded the larger tracks in Chicago and Kentucky as a successful handicap and stakes performer.
