Turfmen Express Delight With New Las Vegas Oval Fly From Del Mar to InspecrTrack; Report Calumet to Send Division LAS VEGAS, Nev., Aug. 24. A plane load of western horsemen who were flown here Sunday from Del Mar to inspect the facilities and racing strip at the new course of the Las Vegas Jockey Club, scheduled to open its inaugural meeting on Friday, September 4, expressed enthusiastic approval of what they saw and many definitely stated that they would ship contingents "here to be raced throughout the I 67-day season. The horsemen, including several prominent California owners and trainers with I a representation of the top jockeys now racing at the seaside track, were the guests of the management which provided them with a giant 81-place TWA Constellation plane for the round trip. In addition to inspecting the new racing plant they were entertained at luncheon at the Sands Hotel and dinner at El Rancho Vegas with visits to the other big hotels on the fabulous strip. Upon arriving at the track, the California horsemen were astonished to see a few thousand other visitors seated in the commodious grandstand. They were Nevada residents who had accepted the managements invitation to preview the new plant on what was called All-Nevada Day. One of the club officials stated that among the prominent stables which had definitely decided to ship to Las Vegas is the Calumet Farm which will send its entire western contingent, numbering up wards of 20 horses, to the Nevada track. On hand to receive the guests and show them through the plant were all the officials of the track, headed by president Lou Smith, who has been here for the past week personally supervising the, last-minute details of prepairing the plant for opening.
