Classy Lassie Dropping In Class at Centennial Vies With Randy S., Mona Lake And Four Others at Six Furlongs By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent CENTENNIAL RACE TRACK, Littleton, Colo., Aug. 24. Tuesdays nine-race card will be the thirty-sixth day of this 50-day session which concludes on September 12. For the day, and as is the custom for "ladies" day," racing secretary and handi-capper J. P. Ross, Jr. has given the card over to "some of the lesser lights available for competition. The best race on the card is a six-furlong dash for sophomores exclusively which are valued at either ,250 or ,750, and as the eighth on the program has been endowed with the title of the Vespers. The field for this feature is rather light with but seven named for the overnight event which has an ,100 purse. The group does include some rather steady performers and it should be an interesting event. Prominent in the field is E. F. Tonozzis Classy Lassie. This Littletown filly has been going with some of the best on the grounds and is definitely descending the ladder for this event. She was a clever winner in the Aspen purse and scored while competing over a muddy race track. That, too, was an allowance affair for her age division and also at six-furlongs. In her most recent outing, the Wonderland Purse, she was pitted a bit high while running in behind Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Robineaus Free Soul, Mr. and Mrs. I. Handelmans Reel Gran, the Loveland Stables First Blue and Cascio and Nicoteros Harvest Point. L. L. Huddlestons Farmers Miss, Smith and Gatewoods Siritas Gal, and the Aarco Stables Mona Lake were all among the "also rans" in the Rio Grande, a six-furlong sprint for ,500 and ,000 platers last Friday. The other three Mrs. J. Reas Randy S., E. De Maranvilles Mama Ida and Mrs. Max Petersons Etcetera s Gal have fair records at the meeting, with any one of them able to furnish the bone of contention for the major part of the purse. The seventh race on the card will suffice as a supporting attraction. For three-year-old and older horses, it too has a six furlongs setting with an ,100 purse, but is for ,000 platers. Comprising the group are the Foothill Farms Tumble Beyond, the Loveland Stables Petes Beauty, Gascio and Nicoteros Red Grier, H. P. Larsons Rhumba King, the Aarco Stables Motorist, Leo Dales Corporal Cal, Mr. and Mrs. F. Horns Eastland Miss, A. C. Sipes Grey Scout, L. Hammocks Charlsa, Mrs. L. Phillips Onis Own and Mr. and .Mrs. E. H. Kratzers Dist. Attorney. Tumble Beyond will be trying for a consecutive victory as well as his third at the meeting. He recently downed a similar field of ,000 platers at five and one-half furlongs and was a length the best of A. D. Woofters Covey Chat while negotiating the distance in a commendable 1:05 flat. The additional sixteenth of a mile should be ideally suited for an improved performance, as he came from off the pace for that score. Another to be considered is Corporal Cal, Earlier in the meeting he, too, was victorious with the same class of contestants, and in his last finished third to Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Kratzers New Clipper . and J. F. Smoots Gold Bolt. He was beaten but a head and a nose for it all, and the claiming price for the event was ,500. A similar effort would make him a dangerous adversary in this band.
