COUNTY CLARE completely dominated his field after settling into the backstretch. He raced to the pace while under wraps, was steadied with OLD GLENDALE until straightened into the stretch, then continued to widen on the field and fought against the bit as Boulmetis unsuccessfully attempted to have him pulled up before the finish. SUN RULER II., taken back at the start and reserved for six furlongs, saved ground and rallied willingly to best the others. ASSUAN was under mild pressure s to remain within striking distance and finished well. OLD GLENDALE was outsprinted by FRENCH FIELD going to the first turn and forced wide by that rival, opened a clear lead under pressure n the backstretch, but could offer no resistance to the winner and drifted out while tiring in the stretch. PRINCE HILL was much the best, was steadied along lacking speed and trailed into the backstretch, could not find room to improve position and was eased back at the four and one-half furlong marker, then again lacked room when set for a rally at the far turn and had to be restrained into the stretch. Valenzuela then guided him to the extreme outside and he closed powerfully in the last three-sixteenths to take command in the last yards. BROWN BOOTER tried to bear out and bumped IFABODY on the first turn, was nicely steadied near the pace, then reached the front from the outside in the last furlong and held on evenly, although no match for the winner.
