Mercer Rides 500th Winner Special to Daily Racing Form NEWMARKET, Suffolk, England, June 29. "Manny" Mercer, Yorkshire-born jockey who triumphed on Robert Bouchers Wilwyn in the inaugural running, of the Washintgon, D. C, International at Laurel, rode his 500th winner in England here today. Mercer was astride the favorite, Epsom Lad, and booted him home a length winner in the Stretchworth Stakes at 12 furlongs, to notch his "half century" - score. Mercer, now 27, was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, and piloted his first winner in 1946. Nearly 450 of his 500 winners have been gained in the last five years.
