. 60,000 Delaware to Head Big Week End at Stanton Oval ! See 50,000 Distribution In Two Days; Lavender Hill, Dispute Out of Rich Event By CHARLES HATTON DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 29. An estimated 50,000 worth of horse races will be presented at Delaware Park on Saturday and Monday, coming to the richest week end of the thoroughbred sport in the history of the Stanton course, and one of the richest anywhere at anytime. The outstanding event will be the Delaware Handicap of a mile and a quarter, which is programmed on Saturday and is the worlds most lucrative feature for fillies and mares. It now is estimated that this climax of the famed "distaff big three" will have a gross value of 60,000 and possibly more, but the precise sum is indeterminable until after the races decision. This is because of the retroactive bonus clause to breeders and nominators. The basic 0,000 in such awards could be doubled, contingent upon "whether or not a filly or mare earning an award in the Delaware started previously in the Delaware Oaks or the "new" New Castle. Indeed it is possible that Saturdays winner will net in excess of 20,000. Offer Sussex on Holiday Mondays Indepence Day program, which terminates the 32 days meeting, has the mile and a quarter of the Sussex Handicap as its principal attraction, and it could gross approximately 0,000. Meanwhile, there were more develop- ments of engrossing interest today concerning the week end stakes. Racing Secre- Continued on Page Forty-Nine Two Big Handicaps End Delaware Meet A wa i t H i g h Vo I ta ge-Pa r I o Clash; Lavender Hill and Dispute Out of Rich Test Continued from Page One tary Gil Haus, who believes that about 20 will start in the Delaware, reported that Lavender Hill and Dispute will be absentees. Trainer T. W. Kelley is authority for it that Lavender Hill, who was fifth in the New Castle, developed some heat in her off knee, and Syl Veitch, who trains Dispute, said she has not progressed quite as he had hoped. High Voltage was to van here today from her Aqueduct headquarters, but according to Mr. Fitz will make the journey tomorrow instead, departing from Long Island at about 4 a. m. This would put her on the grounds before 8 oclock barring the unforeseen. Ted Atkinson was to have the mount on High Voltage, but he may not be able to fill the engagement, as he is mending a sore back, sustained in a spill last week end. If "the slasher" cannot come on to ride the chic gray daughter of Ambiorix, it is indicated that Nick Shuk may have the mount. Eric Guerin is expected to handle her rival Parlo, who is the top-weight and probable favorite under 128 pounds. Trainer John Gaver of the stylish Green-tree . establishment incidentally notified handicapper Haus by phone this morning that his Sussex candidates, Maharajah and Palm Tree, will van here early tomorrow from Belmont Park. Suthern Accent Scores It is a compliment to the Delaware, which is devoted to a selection of the broodmares of the future, that a number of prominent central Kentuckians plan to be present for the occasion. Among others making arrangements to attend are Ira Drymons, the "Doc" Hagyards and the Gayle Mohneys. On Friday, they will be the guests of Lewis Munson, treasurer Of Delaware Park, at luncheon in the Turf Club. The Delaware will attract the two leading aspirants for filly and mare honors in Willie DuPonts four-year-old ParlO and Wheatleys three -year-old High Voltage., Both were voted championships in their respective divisions a year ago. In the recent Top Flight, up at Belmont Park, High Voltage vainly attempted to concede Parlo two pounds by the scale and was beaten off. In the Delaware, the duEont mare must give her younger opponent two pounds on the scale. It is an equasion of absorbing interest for turfgoers in this area. High Voltage recently-was beaten a head and a neck in Aqueducts Gazelle, but she was in difficulties early and was giving away weight. Matter of fact, on their records, career-wise, High Voltage is the steadiest of her sex division, rarely ever having .run a discreditable race. But it is a question if she is quite so formidable as her more mature rival at the present time. Following the Delaware, both fillies are scheduled to move to Saratoga Springs, for the meeting at that point.
