r Social Outcast Dazzles In Training Track Trial Clocked in 1:27 at Belmont For Carter; See Sizable Field BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y. June 29. Alfred G. Vanderbilts Social Outcast, who is expected to start in the 0,000 added Carter Handicap on Independence Day, worked the seven-furlong distance of that stake in dazzling style on the deep training track here this morning. The big Shut Out gelding, who gets in the holiday fixture with 123 pounds, 10 less than High Gun and Helioscope, was clocked in 1:27, going very handily. This is an excellent move over the "Jericho" course. Social Outcast was accompanied by Filter for the first half mile as he stepped the fractions in :36, :49 and 1:14. It now appears that a field of at least 12 will go postward in the Carter, which is not only the richest sprint in the land for mature horses, but promises to be the most engrossing renewal in its history, which dates back to 1895. Helioscope arrived at Aqueduct on schedule this mornig, getting in at 5:30" a.m., apparently none the worse for his van trip from Monmouth Park. In addition to the stars of the handicap division, High Gun and Helioscope, and the hard-hitting Social Outcast, Jack Amiels Mr. Turf, James Cox Bradys Artismo, Brookmeade Stables First Aid, Joe W. Browns Bobby Brocato, Clearwater Stables Dark Peter, Greentree Stables Gold Box, Walter M. Jeffords Tahiti, Clifford Luskys Tuosix and Woodley Lane Farms Red Hannigan are regarded as definite candidates by racing secretary Frank E. "Jimmy" Kilroe. Other likely possibilities include Brookfield Farms I Appeal, J. Ross Clark H.s Southarlington, High Tide Stables Fabulist, Ethel D. Jacobs Joe Jones or Paper Tiger, Maine Chance Farms Jet Action and Morris Sims Blessbull. It is to be hoped that all 18 of the possibilities do not enter the Carter, as it would either have to be split, which would probably nullify the eagerly awaited return meeting between High Gun and Helioscope, or bring about too large a field for a true race, despite the long run to the first turn at seven furlongs. However, Mrs. Jacobs pair, as well as Jet Action and Blessbull are rather remote possibilities. Two Carter candidates worked well at Aqueduct this morning. Tuosix impressed work watchers with a handy six furlongs in 1:13, while First Aid was clocked in 1:14, working in company with the three-year-old Canyon. Meanwhile, the field for Saturdays Dwyer, which also carries 0,000 added, but is at a mile and a quarter, seems likely to be as small as the Carter is abundant. At this writing, only Mrs. E. E. Bankheads Jabneh is expected to oppose Belair Studs eastern three-year-old champion Nashua in what will almost certainly be a betless exhibition. There is also a chance that Clifford Mooers Ohio Derby and Withers winner, Traffic Judge, will start, in which case there probably will be straight betting.
