Dark Horse in Surprise Victory at River Downs Knapp Colorbearer Starts Daily Double Which Is Worth 57.60 By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondeiit RIVER DOWNS, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 29. Owner-trainer A. E. Knapp saddled his first winner of the meeting in the opening race here this afternoon in the form of Dark Horse. This five-year-old Easton gelding lived up to his name and after negotiating six furlongs in 1:12 under the able guidance of jockey Willie Cur-tin rewarded his scattered supporters with an 1.60, 6.60 and 0.60 across the board return. S. K. Huff ord and W. A. Sizemores Old Booty, who is trained by W. A. Ronish, furnished the second half of the Daily Double and with Guillermo jSilva in the saddle, had a neck on E? Albrights Tonys Trouble and jockey Howard Craig. The 4 and 4 combination was worth 57.60. In the post parade of the first race, John A. Hikes Galahad unseated his rider, Henry Ford, The Louisville, Ky., lad, who is just 19 years old, has yet to ride a winner at the meeting. However, after the accident he was taken to a local hospital and it was disclosed that he received minor bruises and a shaking up, and he will be ready to accept mounts again in a day or so. In the third race on the card, the Hi-Acres Stock Farms Shillelah Mike "and J. Hodge and H. Hawkins Periclean, an invader from New York, engaged in one of the most sensational stretch duels of the meeting with the Bold Irishman colt winning out by an ever so short nose. Shillelah Mike was the favorite in the betting and returned .40 after negotiating the mile and one-sixteenth in 1:47.
