. . j Fair Grounds Planning 8 3 -Day Meet Opening on Thanksgiving Season Would Run Nov. 24 To March 70; Directors Re-elect Letellier President NEW ORLEANS, La., June 29. Fair Grounds officers and directors, at their annual meeting for election of board members Tuesday evening voted to request dates for an 83 -day season of racing beginning next Thanksgiving, November 24. The application for the dates will be sent to .the Louisiana State Racing commission in due time. If granted, the Fair Grounds dates will extend from November 24 to March 10, 1956. John S. Letellier was re-elected president of the Fair Grounds Corporation and all other board members were continued in office, the election of Terrence J. Smith adding a new member. President Letellier reported to the board that the Fair i Grounds season of last winter was the most successful in New Orleans history. A total of ,768,515 was paid to the state of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans in taxes and license fees and ,556,000 distributed to the horsemen during the i 1954-55 season. The daily average attend- i ance was 8,475. Other Members of Board Besides Letellier and Smith, the board comprises: Mrs. Anthony Pelleteri as vice-president, S." C. Braselman as vice-president; F. W. Gaudin as secretary, Richard G. Jones as treasurer and E. F. Creekmor, Robert M: Parker, Justin Querbes, Jr., Robert L. Simpson, Shelly Schuster and John J. OLeary. JOHN S.
