Reflections By Nelson Dunstan Belmont Makes Bid for Championship Race Sysonby Could Attract Four Top Horses Helioscope and High Gun Point for Carter NEW YORK, N. Y., June 29. While several tracks have been endeavoring to bring Nashua and Swaps together in a match race, Belmont Park went a bit farther in attempting to match the top three-year-olds and also Helioscope and High Gun in the Sysonby, which is to be run September 24 at weight-for-age. A race presenting these four horses would not only be the best of the season, but one of the greatest magnets of the century. Our mail continues to bring comment on a , match between Swaps and Nashua, but the event would be a greater attraction if the two older horses were sent against them. The closing dates for the Sysonby has been put back to September 14, so there will be plenty of opportunity for owners to com- plete their schedules through the Saratoga meeting. Jimmy Kilroe has assigned Helioscope and High Gun 133 pounds each for the Carter Handicap on the holiday and while some people were surprised by the assignments, they will settle the question much more conclusively than was the case in the Suburban in which High Gun gave Helioscope five pounds and was beaten by a head. The Carter Handicap is at seven furlongs and it was in this race two years ago that Tom Fool won under the burden of 135 pounds. The Carter will in no way interfere with the plans of the owners of the four colts. It is our understanding that if only two of the four accept, the offer of 00,000 for the Sysonby will stand. Sport Appears in Healthy State r Here comes July and we can look back on six months of good racing and look iorward with great expectations Jto more of the same before August rolls around The Trend of Racing chart in this paper reveals that the sport is in a;-healthy condition, for there are" far more plus than-minus signs. At Delaware Park on Saturday the: ,O00-Delaware Handicap for fillies and niares will-be run; -Throughout the month, there are many other rich events as the Arlington Classic, Holly--wood Gold Cup, Sunset Handicap and Arlington Handicap, each having 00,000 added. During the month ahead, there will be no less than eight races with 0,-000 in added money. For fans in the East, the Dwy.er Stakes on Saturday will be a fine attraction at Aqueduct, as Nashua will go to the post. A week later, the Brooklyn Hadicap will be run at Aqueduct and the same day Holly wwood Park will present the Westerner. -Swaps will be a starter in this race, which is exclusively for three-year-olds at one and one-quarter miles. We doubt that any race in July will be more thrilling than, the Edgemere Handicap was last Saturday. While the contestant were not of championship caliber, we cannot recall a finish as exciting as that involving Paper Tiger,. Straight Face and Red Hannigan. It was the best race that Straight Face has run since the-Suburban of a year ago. The Greentree gelding was cut-out to be a good horse and it may be thai? he is now on his way back to the form he displayed in 1954, when he gave Native Dancer such a tussle in the Metropolitan. Bringing the trio in the Edgemere so close together points out the handicapping skill of Jimmy Kilroe. Some thrilling races are promised in July and it would not be surprising if one is the Carter, provided, of course, Helioscope and High Gun answer the bugle. Those who witnessed the running of the New Castle at Delaware Park last Saturday tell us it, too, was a thriller and with a large field certain to start in the Delaware Handicap that, too, could be a race wihch will have the spectators on edge. Half-Sister to Summer Tan in Sales Three-Dot Shorts: One of the outstanding fillies to be sold at Keeneland is a half-sister to Summer Tan. She has been consigned by J. W. Burton of Middleburg, Va. . . . Tulyar will stand this year at a fee of ,680 and he will b6 limited to 40 mares. ... To date, Citation has had three winners, his latest being the filly Carmel, who won the Nursery Stakes at Hollywood Park. . . . Errard King, who raced so impressively last year, but has not made an appearance this season, will be sent to stud. Sold by Darby Dan Farm of John W. Galbreath for ,600, he earned 17,700 for his owner, Joseph Govegnano, so add -him to the list of yearling bargains. . . . Neville Dunn, editor of the Thoroughbed Record, says: "We should all keep our big noses out of William Woodward, Jr.s business." But that does not change the fact that the American racing public is awaiting a race between Nashua and Swaps. . . . Calumet Farm has some beautifully bred yearlings and among the foals of 1955 is a bay colt by Bull Lea, out of Blue Larkspurs daughter, Blue Delight. . . . Royal Charger now commands a 0,000 service fee and he is the only horse in the world held at that figure.
