BATTY Staff Correspondent THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 29. Betty Barr, a surprise victress in the Imp Handicap here on June 18 for owner Mrs. Leonard M. Carver, made it two straight tallies when she convincingly conquered six other three-year-olds in the sixth"- and featured race on the program today. A stout choice with the 6,175 fans because of her smashing Victory in the Imp, in which she was timed a sparkling 1:11, Betty Barr missed by one-fifth of a second duplicating that effort when timed six furlongs today in 1:11 and had her rider, Charles McKee, also aboard in her stakes score, elected to extend his mount through the final furlong, she undoubtedly could have gone in 1:10 and some change. A three-year-old daughter of Natchez Cocktail Bar, the winner gained top portion of a ,000 in this outing by arriving at the wire four and a half lengths in ad- vance of Mrs. Flo Silbernians Our Only One, who was trying for four Straight victories. The latter saved the place award by a length over Beautiful Lady, owned by B. J. Bax. Zalinger, Mambo, who registered an upset victory in her previous outing, was public choice in this dash of six furlongs and she paid .20 after downing Double Hustle by slightly more than a length. Dateline was third among the field of eight ,000 claiming sprinters. Jockey Leslie Wickel, who came here recently .from Chicago with the large stable trainer Benny Creech brought to this point, rode the winners of the first and second races, compiling a Daily Double payoff of 9.20, on the successful horses Manassas and Beau Rambler. Both were favored in the wagering. Wickel, wearing the racing silks of owner-trainer John Zitnik in the first race, got Manassas up in the final stride to nose out Helicopter. Another five lengths away, Skyride came in third among the nine juveniles who competed sX five furlongs. Manassas returned .00 at the straight windows. Beau Rambler, belonging to the partnership of Mrs. G. Searcy and Mrs. J. Conte, took a length and a half decision from Star Borjean with Gray Night third at the end of this one mile and a furlong contest. Al- though shortest priced in the betting, Beau Ramblerpaid 0.40 straight. Bold Hunter, a two -year-old son of Hunters Moon IV. Great Hurry, chalked up his second straight victory when scoring m the third race. The Bobanet Stable youngster served notice he is a capable sort when ticking off five furlongs in front-running fashion in :59, reporting to the wire a length before Mr. C. B., -while another length and a half away, Play Top was third. Bold Hunter, ridden by R. J. "Bobby" Martin, was favored with the fans and paid .60.
