Cassidy Heads Stewards For Del Mar Race Meet Tunney, Buchanan Also Named To Serve at Surfside Course DEL MAR, Calif., June 29. Wendell P. Cassidy, veteran Western turf official, will be back in the stand as -presiding steward when Del Mars-16th summer season opens here July 27, it was disclosed today by Donald B. Smith, president and general manager. - - List of officials is expected to be ap- proved for the turf-surf course at tomorrows meeting of the California Horse Racing Board in Los Angeles. James J. Tunney will serve as associate steward to Cassidy, with W. C. Buchanan as steward representing the racing board. The post of racing secretary and handi-capper will again be filled by John R. Ma-luvius, assisted by Herman Sharpe and Jack P. Meyers. All have been Del Mar regulars for several seasons. Raymond Tremayne, Andrew Ferguson, Lawrence McDermott and Robert McRob-erts will serve as paddock and field judge, with George C. Zarelli, John Hartley and Meyers as placing judges. Veteran William R. Mills returns as the starter, Robert V. Rossi as clerk of the scales and R. F. Brown as official timer. Dr. L. J. Cook will be back as track veterinarian and Dr. H. C. McKim will be the veterinarian representing the racing board.
