Darby Munro, Australian Crack Rider, Retires SYJJNEY, Australia. Darby Munro, who was one of Australias and the worlds greatest jockeys, has retired. He announced here that he would relinquish his license with the Australian Jockey Club. His license does not expire until July 31. According to his wife, Mrs. Shirley Munro, it was not a split-second decision. She said Darby had been discussing the question of his retirement with her for several weeks. "I am delighted that he has now decided to retire," she said. "I was always worried when he was riding in races because I never knew what was going to happen to him. A man of Darbys age does not think as fast as a younger man."
