Eds Day Heads Arlington Sprint Band Second Endurance Feature Lures 10 Brachs Admiral, Pursuance, Leather Kid and Nirgal Lad Also in Six Furlongs Field ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, HI., June 29. An interesting program will, be offered Thursday as the meeting gathers momentum for the rapidly approaching Fourth of July week end. The Crystal Lake, ,000 six furlongs sprint for four-year-olds and upwards, will be the feature, and ten seasoned runners, headed by Calumet Farms Eds Day and Frank V. Brachs Brachs Admiral, are entered. r The Crystal Lake is billed as the sixth event on an eight-race card, and chief opposition to Eds Day and Brachs Admiral may come from Reverie Knoll Farms entry of Leather Kid -and Mon-Pharo and Terrence Q. Preeces No Return. Others in the race are Marvin Affelds Pursuance, W. J. Sprows Marshall at Arms, Emil Denemarks Fiddle, Jacnot Stables Nirgal Lad, and Peretz and Mavros Outsmart. Another attraction on Thursdays card will be the Ten Broeck No. 2, second of a series of distance races programmed on each Thursday of the entire Arlington-Washington schedule. The ,000 Ten Broeck No. 2 will be contested at one mile and five-sixteenths on the main course. Ten distance racers were named for the event, headed by Amphiblen and Gravy Boat XL, and third finishers in the Ten Broeck No. 1 here last week. Prevailed in Photo Finish In the Crystal Lake, Eds Day appears likely choice off his triumph here last week, beating Brachs Admiral and the highly-regarded By Zeus in a photo decision. It was a six-furlong test and the first victory" this year for the Calumet runner in six efforts. Brachs Admiral was second to Eds Day here in an impressive return to the races. It was the colts first start this year and he was reserved off the early pace, then sent around and between horses in the stretch drive and just failed to collar the winner. - Pursuance, victorious only once in eight starts this year, deadheated for second behind Arab Actress here last week. It was the first time the gelding had been in the money since he won his 1955 debut at Fair, Grounds. Last year Pursuance won two of seven races. Mon-Pharo makes his! second Arlington appearance and his fourth of the year. He ran fifth in Eds Days winning race last week. Leather Kid, going as an entry-mate with Mon-Pharo, was fifth here last Saturday after dueling Van Crosby for the lead early in a grass sprint. It marked his first start of the season. Marshall At Arms is making his first start here. He recently . finished third behind My, Banker and Star Rover in Suffolks Paul Revere Handicap. Earlier he won a Suffolk allowance sprint. Nh-gal Lad dead-heated Pursuance for second behind Arab Actress here last week. The heavily-campaigned son of Nirgal makes his seventeenth start Thursday. His lone win came at Balmoral, a six-furlong sprint. Fiddle was fifth here in Arab Actress i winning performance. It was his first grass venture. Outsmart, making her second Arlington effort, shows one victory in 12 starts this year. That was back in January at Hia-leah. She went unplaced four times in as many starts at Balmoral. No Return is winless this year in four starts, most recent of which was a seventh here last week in a grass sprint. In the Ten Broeck No. 2, Amphiblen looms the likely favorite. The William J. Schmidt-owned charge shows a win and a second in two Arlington starts. Al listed among the starters is William Morton, winner of a Balmoral endurance test. He was eighth while Killimor and Attavar, two other candidates Thursday, were ninth and tenth, respectively, in the first Ten Broeck.
