San Andres Shows Rare Gameness in Triumph Outstays Dainty Dish, Sangamon Girl in Fairmount Main Event By J. J. HAHN Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., June 29. San Andres, a five-year-old i gelded son of the little known Fiat Lux, owned and trained by G. A. Hodges, won the Warson Woods Purse, the headliner on the Tuesday night eight-race card. Under the handling of R. L. White, who previous-ly had held the reins on Mr. and Mis. G. B. Holmans consistent Mandys First, winner of the third race, the Hodges representative had to show rare gameness under a terrific drive to outstay Dr. Arthur S. Moores Dainty Dish and Sangamon Girl, who flaunted the silks of H. C. Rinehart. Judge Mac arid Dainty Dish cut out the early pace and were closely followed by the ultimate winner and Sangamon Girl racing in next position. After a half Judge Mac began to shorten stride andJDainty Dish took command, holding on tenaciously all through the stretch when challenged by San Andres and Sangamon Girl. In the . run through the final sixteenth of the six m furlongs dash it was a three-horse race W and matching stride for stride in a head-I to-head duel. At the finish San Andres was the stronger and bested Dainty Dish by a k neck, while the latter was only a nose before Sangamon Girl. Judge Mac finished a?iJtediy.,leaten fjprth. i Xkmejb Meadow.. First Spin arid Derby Play were the other contestants and they finished in that order. A majority of the 5,660 fans supported San Andres, who made the Hodge horse 3 to 2 choice. Thursdays feature is the Arbor Terrace, a five and one-half furlongs dash for three-year-olds. There are 11 entered here and, including a pair of newcomers, Mayo Lane and Make. Scheduled to match their speed against them are Harquin, Easter B, Rite-One, Till We .Meet, Dee Mee Dee, Poky John, Aunt CTilly, Razor Blade and Blue Maid. The latter is coupled with Mayo Lane. The largest fields of the meeting make up the nine-race card and the supporting number is the seventh race at one mile and 70 yards, and in which many winners the meeting are to meet.
