It was a little more than a length back to tJoe Nashs Recherche, who finished well to take third money by a head over Mrs. Charles Silvers Sylvia Porter. Heliodorus had only one starter last year and Scansion is believed to be the first winner by the young stud who stands at Marion duPont Scotts Montpelier Farm in Virginia. Bolero Jane was first away at the start of the Astoria, but Magneto took a lead of slightly more than a length over Scansion, who was closely followed by Planetrix and Mabe Gee, who was racing on the outside. This quartet were daylight before the rest of the field in the run around the far turn to the stretch. Magneto came into the home lane a length before Scansion and was still in the van at the furlong pole, but was obviously beginning to tire and seemed unable to put up much response to Jess Higleys urging when Arcaro roused Scansion. That filly moved to Magneto just above the six-teeth pole and immediately dominated the situation, but Arcaro had to keep after her the rest of the way. Recherche finished strongly after being in sixth place at the eighth pole, while Sylvia Porter hung a little in the drive after making a strong move -rounding for home.
