SPIRIAM went to the front soon after the start and, shaking off BELDIC after entering the stretch, was not in danger in the last furlong. FLAG FOX moved into strong contention nearing the stretch turn and raced well thereafter but did not threaten the leader. WALKERS BRANCH was in tight quarters a couple of times while racing on the inside but went courageously to the end. REMHOH was slow to get in stride and lost considerable ground while making his move on the outside. BLANCHARD failed to threaten. BELDIC tired in the last furlong. Overweight Remhoh, 1 pound. WITCH WAY was saved within striking distance of the leaders in the early running and coming around the outside on the stretch turn, closed strongly in the middle of the track to catch BLACK POPPY and won going away. The latter, rated close up, headed DEEP WONDER after entering the stretch and held on well. SHERRY L. was badly outrun to the stretch, but finished fast SCRATCHIN-OFF closed considerable ground. WHIRLABOY raced wide. SEPPIE and EDUCT were Always outrun. DEEP WONDER and BALAS GEM tired after showinq early speed. ZIPDEDO beat the others away and, showing good speed, withstood several early challenges from BONANZA MISS and drew away from the latter nearing the finish. BONANZA MISS also .displayed good early speed in keeping pace with the leader most of the way and easily saved second place. GRAY VAMP improved her position gradually in the last quarter and was racing well at the end. SUMMER BREEZE was off poorly, then rushed up in the middle of the track around the far turn to reach a good position on the stretch turn, but was used up from her early effort and faltered in the final drive. DEMREE .was a forward, contender from the start and, taking a fair lead nearing the stretch turn, increased it slightly in the stretch to win under hand riding. RECLINE moved up rounding the stretch turn but was unable to get to the leader, although easily the best of the rest. MIGHTY MOMENT raced wide but finished well. JET STREAM moved up nearing the stretch turn and continued, steadily to the end. MAUVERNEEN had the most speed for a half mile but tired in the last furlong. SCENT wa? closest to DUC DE FER while the latter was making the pace and, moving up on the outside after entering the stretch, took command about a furlong out and increased his margin under hand urging. DUC DE FER displayed good speed in setting the pace but dropped back after contesting the issue briefly after entering the stretch. ARAB ACTRESS was unable to keep up with the pace but responded gamely to urging in the stretch and went well to the finish. VAGABOND-KING trailed early, "then came to the outside in the stretch to get up in the last stride to obtain a dead-heat for third place with ARAB ACTRESS.
