Red Feather Handicap Tests Nine at Maumee Fancy Topweighted Defrost Over Guys Birthday-But First Entry By T. J. Nine capable middle-distance performers will vie for the major portion of the ,500 purse which will be staged at 1 mile and 70 yards. The management will make this years first contribution to the Greater Toledo Community Chest here Saturday following the main event honoring the Community Chest and its 57 affiliated agencies. A. W. Simeondious Defrost has been assigned the top honored impost of 119 pounds for Saturdays chief offering and should be capable of humbling his rivals Saturday afternoon. The shifty roan son of First Fiddle will be seeking his fourth consecutive victory at the current meeting when the bugle sounds calling the field from the paddock. Defrost annexed the Buckeye State Handicap last Saturday and took down top honors in a pair of allowance, races prior to last weeks triumph. Jockey Kenny Robertson was aboard the Simeondiou ace in his last two outings and is likely to handle the saddle chores again tomorrow. Guys Birthday and But First, who are owned by the Green River Stable, and will run coupled in the wagering as an entry, appear to hold a strong hand. The former has been asked to carry 117 pounds, only two less than Defrost. This capable performer finished fourth in the Buckeye State Handicap which was his lone outing at this session but has an enviable record with eight wins and seven seconds to his credit last year. Trainer Guy Mays has him ready for a sharp effort and as his forte is distance affairs he may be coming on when some of his adversaries are getting weary. But First, his stablemate, with~110 pounds is not quite the horse as Guys Birthday but has shown plenty of speed on occasions. Doc Moorman, owned by A. Walt, is two-time winner at the meeting and will tote 116 pounds with jockey Bernard Walt doing the booting while H. S. Takeras Bern Crest, a winner at the meeting, will carry 112 pounds as will C. Kranjenkes Hard to Spell, who was victorious in his last two starts. L. Gangemis El Steredo, who scored here at one mile and 70 yards, the same distance as tomorrows test, has been assigned 110 pounds. Almar Super, from the Maple Hill Farm, and a winner at this oval, will tote 107 while Shakespearean, who was acquired by Mr. and Mrs. S. Hansen from W. C.
