SLAVIN — President of River Downs announced the stakes schedule for the coming 44-day meeting. 4 River Downs Schedules Eight Stakes for Meet of 44 Days I I I i ; 1 • ; • 1 Queen City, Cincinnati and * Kentucky Handicaps Hiked; Hurdle Feature on June 12 CINCINNATI, Ohio, May 8.— Eight stakes and nine or more overnight features will highlight the River Downs 44-day meeting opening May 29 and running through July 18. Leon Slavin, president and general manager, released the schedule today, announcing an increase in three stakes. The Queen City Handicap, designed for three-year-olds and upward over a mile and 3 furlongs, has been increased to ,000 along with the Cincinnati Handicap. The latter is for three-year-olds and upward over a mile and one-sixteenth. The Kentucky Handicap now carries an added purse value of ,000, Slavin said. This event named Tor the Blue Grass state is for three-year-olds at 6 furlongs and will be run Saturday, June 6. Racing secretary Jimmy Ross has slated the Queen City Handicap for Saturday, July 4. The Cincinnati Handicap will close out the mid-summer session July 18. The new added money events are the ,000 River Downs Hurdle Handicap for four-year-olds and upward over hurdles on the turf course at a distance of about 2 miles. This lump event is scheduled for "Friday, June 12. Homebred Event June 13 Greater Cincinnati racing Tans also will view the ,500 Ohio Homebred for the first time. The race, carded for Saturday, June 13, will attract three-year olds over j six furlongs. j Slavin explained that "consistent" with i wishes of horsemen and the expectations of our discriminating patrons, we have diversified our numberous features so that | the better horses in many classifications ■ will be contesting these events."
