Work Schedule for Preakness Hopes Manassa Mauler in Group Slated to Drill This Morning Rico Tesio, Black Hills Also ♦ To Train; Sword Dancer on Track; No Change in Line-up By CHARLES BATTON PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 8.— A number of "Sunday Horses" will work this Saturday for the 50,000 added Preakness on May 16 if track conditions remain suitable overnight, according to the well laid plans their trainers announced on the Hilltop today. Manassa Mauler, the 2,500 plater come stakes horse, is to have his first serious drill over the Pimlico surface at 7 a.m. in the morning. Assistant trainer Luis DCasieres proposes to send the Wood winner 6 snappy furlongs. New York res-tarateur Emil Dolces three-year-old, only supplemental entry for the Preakness at a fee of 0,000, was given the feel of the Pimlico course when he galloped twice around this morning. Another who is to be a breezer Saturday is the Briardale Farms Rico Tesio, who was tenth in the Derby after a rather rough passage. Tommy Imbesi, brother to owner Anthony Imbesi, is pleased with the chestnuts condition. He weathered a rough trip also in Open Views division of the Derby Trial, in which he was pinched back while in a contending position. Rico -Tesio signified his satisfaction with the Pimlico going last fall, when he made up many lengths behind Intentionally in the Pimlico Futurity. Speed Drills for King Ranch Pair Still others who will get out for a gallop tomorrow morning are the King Ranchs Black Hills and Call the Witness. Trainer Max Hirsch has prescribed a speed drill for these two, respectively sons of Princequillo and Better Self. They are to work in company. The gaigantuan Elmer Kal-ensky, astute trainer of Master Palynch, said today that turf .scribe Pat Lynchs namesake shipped from Chicago in splendid condition and will be on the track during training hours tomorrow for some sort of work. This one gives the upcoming Preakness a fillip of international interest, as he is owned by Ben Hatskin and Sam Sair, of Winnipeg* Canada. Brookmeades favored Sword Dancer, who lost the Derby to Tomy Lee by a small margin but in a -big effort, was on the course this morning and galloped once around in anticipation of the 1 3-16 miles classic a week from Saturday. Groom Sylvester Cook estimates: "He is doing just fine." It is not intended Jie shall start in Mondays Preakness Prep of ,000 at 1 1-16 miles. He is rather a light little horse who does not look to require rigorous training. But- he will be worked on Sunday morning. All but two of the expected starters in the history-making race a week from Saturday now are on the grounds. Trainer J. H. "Casey" Hayes, who conditions Chris Chenerys First -Landing, said today that he will van the son of Turn-to to Pimlico from Belmont Park on Monday or Tuesday. The Elkcam Stables Open View is quartered at neighboring Garden State Park. He is to come to the Baltimore park early in the week. Rico Tesio, who certainly lost no caste through his out-of-the-nowhere stretch run in the Derby, was to be saddled up by trainer Reggie Cornell to work publicly later today. He is an intended participant in Mondays Prep, along with Black Hills and the colorful Manassa Mauler. Trio Engaged at 1 1-16 Miles There was no variation in the list of probables for the ensuing Preakness today. Brookmeades resolute Sword Dancer Shoemaker up continued to loom rather formidably as a solid 7-to-5 favorite to win 37,700 of a gross prize of 91,809 by turning back C. T. Chenerys First Landing Arcaro, Mrs. Ben Cohens Pen Bolero Grant, Mrs. Halina Braunsteins Royal Orbit Harmatz , R. S. Lytles Sundown II. L. Adams, Llangollens Mosby no boy, Briardale Farms Rico Tesio M. Ycaza, Elkcams Open View Korte, C. B. Fisch-bachs Festival King Carstens, Emil Dolces Manassa Mauler Broussard, Hat-skins and Sairs Master Palynch Stevenson" and Bob Klebergs Black Hills Boul-metis. Sundown H., Pen Bolero and Mosby are engaged in the mile arid one-sixteenth eighth race here this afternoon. This events name, incidentally, was changed from the Pikesville to the Pimlico Merchants Association Purse. R. L. Stevenson was to ride Mosby today, but is on Master Palynch in the Preakness. Of course, the census takers may count fewer probables after this race. The crush of requests for reserved seats at this Preakness encourages the Cohens, Herman and Ben, and Lou Pcndfield to believe that with any luck in the weather the attendance will exceed the track record of 42,370 present for the 1946 Preakness. That was the year Assault won the Triple Crown. The crowd last spring counted 35,-912. The facilities for handling the public in the innerfield have been increased this year, with more tote windows, concessions, etc., behind the tote board. The club proposes to withhold 1,800 grandstand seats from the reserved seat sale to offer oa a first-come, first-served basis. The general admission charge is .80, which applies also in the innerfield. The gates will be opened Preakness Day at 9:30 a.m. Concurrently the advance wagering on the days centerpiece, richest of the Triple Crown events, will be offered in the main grandstand. First post is 1 p.m. but the regular program will be preceded by the seventh Powder Puff Preakness, Americas only regulation race for lady jockeys, at 12:15. Advance wagering on the Preakness is to continue until 3:15 with the beer garden refrains of "Maryland, My Maryland," which is "Oh, Tanebaum" with a beard, summoning the field to the post at 5:30 EDT. The program is scheduled, optimistically perhaps, to be completed by 6:20. HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 8.— Hurrying to put his affairs in order this morning was trainer Reggie Cornell so that he could enplane tonight for Maryland to supervise the training of his crack three-year-old, Royal Orbit, for the 50,000-added Preakness a week from Saturday. He said that his sophomore star would run in the mile and one-sixteenth prep race Monday. Cornell said he wanted to be on hand when Royal Orbit, who was fourth in the Kentucky Derby, was shod. Cornell will remain in the East until the Preakness. If Royal Orbit performs well in the second leg of the Triple Crown, he will also run in the Belmont Stakes before returning to Hollywood Park, Cornell stated. Veteran horseman Allan "Sammy" Mc-Isaacs will handle the Cornell horses in Reggies absence. Mclsaacs, a licensed trainer in his own right, was Buster Miller-lcks number one hand for many years.
