Pop Pop Corn Corn After After Repeat Repeat Dixie Dixie Win; Win; Intentionally Intentionally Tops Tops Delaware Delaware Valley Valley Clashes With One-Eyed King; Langton Breeze on Turf Oval Air Pilot, Oligarchy and Four Others in Fine Field For 9,250 Pimlico Stake By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 8.— One of the outstanding field of turf competitors assembled this season has been entered to contest the 58th running of the famed Dixie Handicap, the Maryland Jockey Clubs oldest stakes event. With nfne entrants, the 1% miles grass attraction will gross 9,250, with the owner of the winner netting 8,712.50. Co-highweights under 120 pounds are Cain Hoy Stables One-Eyed King and Tower Hill Farms Langton Breeze, each of whom will be conceding two pounds to Greentree Stables Pop Corn and F. Ambrose Clarks Amber Diver. Next in line under 116 pounds is Brookmeade Stables Oligarchy, who has been assigned a single pound more than Mrs. Ada L. Rices Air Pilot. Rounding out the field will be Perne L. Grissoms Innishowen, 114; Mrs. H. L. Nathensons Midontrial, 112 and C. Mah-lon Klines Mystic LT., 110 pounds. One-Eyed King, a five-year-old son of Nasrullah, has not raced since the Florida season, where he concluded a five -race campaign with a pair of victories over the grass. The last one came in the inaugural running of the Donn Handicap, where he scored impressively over Ekaba, General Arthur and others at lVz miles. He will be ridden by Manuel Ycaza, who rode him last year when he was second in the New York Handicap." Langton Breeze in Seasons Bow Langton Breeze will be making his first start of the year but last year proved a versatile sort while winning eight races, the majority of them over grass. On one occasion he whipped One - Eyed King while conceding the Cain Hoy colt four pounds at the Dixie distance. Langton Breeze has trained well at Belmont Park and will be ridden by Dave Erb. Pop Corn is the defending champion in the Dixie, having won last years running in impressive fashion. His current form was assured earlier this week when he won at 1 1-16 miles and equaled the course record of 1:43% under three pounds less than his weight tomorrow. He will have the services of his regular rider in Johnny Ruane. Amber Diver is another who has proved himself over turf and who is capable of taking down the main share of the spoils. He has trained well at Belmont Park and showed a fair effort in a sprint conditioner at Jamaica. Eldon Nelson, a favored rider in this area, will be down to handle the riding chores on the Ambiorix five-year-old. Oligarchy hasnt competed over the grass in about two years, but as a three-year-old, he was second toJabneh in the Hialeah Turf Cap. He won half of his eight starts during 58 and boasts a single victory in four outings this season. Karl Korte gets the call atop the Brookmeade racer. Air Pilot is a stranger to grass competition but comes well recommended by recent form. He was third in both the Gulfstream Park and Wilwyn Handicaps and in his last appearance dropped a head decision to Piano Jim in the Laurel Handicap. Jack Leonard will be on hand to take care of trainer Clyde Troutts charge. Mystic TI. boasts a stakes score during the current term, having accounted for the Westchester Handicap at Jamaica. He hasnt turned in a bad effort in eight starts and seems favorably treated under 110 pounds. Mike Sorrentino will do the riding. Innishowen and Midontrial shape up as the outsiders in the field, despite the fact that they were second and third, respectively, . behind Pop Corn in his record-equaling spin locally. Innishowen hasnt won for his present owner since being claimed for 5,000 at Hialeah, while Mid- ontrial is a norr-winner this year. Keith Stuart rides Innishowen, with Larry Adams scheduled to handle Midontrial.
