Weather Prophet Whips Sundown II. Riversun Third In Pimlico Photo Art Chambers Rides Shipley Winner; Pen Bolero, Mosby Lose Chance at Preakness By Staff Corravondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md.f May 8. — Weather Prophet, from the Willowbrook Stable of Burton D. Shipley, defeated Robert S. Lytles Sundown n. and Powhatan Farms Riversun in a. three-way photo at the conclusion of Pimlicos featured Merchants Association Purse this afternoon. Mrs. Ben Cohens Pen Bolero eliminated himself from Preakness consideration by finishing a soundly beaten fourth in the field of a half dozen three-year-olds. Weather Prophet, strongly handled by Art Chambers, negotiated the 1 1-16 miles in 1:46% and paid 4 to his backers in the crowd of 8,001. A son of the speedy Woodchuck, from the Johnstown mare Patent, Weather Prophet had never been tried at more than sprint distances before today and he accepted the opportunity with willingness. Sundown n. performed more creditably than did Pen Bolero and is a possibility for the middle jewel of racings Triple Crown. Llangollen Farms Mosby was completely outdistanced in what some hoped would be his final prep for the 50,000 added Preakness. English-Bred Sets Pace Sundown n., the English-bred who has raced only three times in this country prior to this afternoon, set the pace under good rating by Larry Adams. He remained in front along the backstretch and around the final turn, retainirig a two-length lead under good snugging. Riversun and Weather Prophet were heads apart behind the leader and it was not until entering the stretch that both were placed to pressure to lodge their challenges. Weather Prophet joined the leader from the outside leaving the furlong pole, while Riversun took a course along the inner rail. Weather Prophet forged to the front nearing the finish, then was unable to increase his advantage as Sundown n. continued on doggedly. Riversuns bid fell short but he was beaten only a length at the wire, while the late efforts of the top three left the favored Pen Bolero seven lengths farther back in a dismal showing.
