Vertex, who will go to the post carrying topweight of 130, stepped a half mile over the Jamaica track in :49. A Dragon Killer, in with 112, had a brief speed test of- :36 for 3 furlongs, while Piano Jim dashed a half mile over the Belmont Park main strip in :48%. Mrs. Josephine Bay Pauls Idun, with jockey Dave Erb in the irons, completed a rhythmic 5 furlongs in :59%, handily, after posting fractions of :35 for the 3 furlongs and :47 for the half mile. Greentree Stables Eurasia continued to train briskly for his local debut as he sped 7 panels in 1:25%, handily. The speedy gray was impressive during his work, getting the first half in :47, and traveling past the three-quarter pole in 1:12%. Trainer Mack Miller sent Polamby three-quarters in 1:12%, while Llangollen Farms Gallarullah, who seemed short in her first appearance, post a quick :59% for the 5 furlongs. Carlton Palmers, imported Tharp, who prefers to race on the turf, worked 4 furlongs in handsome style from the gate in :48%, while trainer Bill Hicks good colt, Pilot, covered his half mile assignment in :46%. The "Sunny Jim" Fitzsimmons duo of Brave Pilot and Bases Full displayed high speed working a half mile in :46% as a team. On the Belmont training track, Tommy Root Jr. had Stella Stecklers Sir Barker go 3 furlongs in :36%, while Bevy of Roses from the same barn covered 5 panels in 1:04.
