Spring Fever Shooting For Additional Laurels Eyes Fifth Score of Fort Miami Season in Mondays Main Event By T. J. MULLIGAN FORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio, May 11.— Seven thoroughbreds will battle it out for top honors in the eighth and feature race Monday, titled the Orient Purse, with Frank Guciardos Spring Fever heading the group. Spring Fever has an enviable record at the current Fort Miami meeting, having taken down second money on two occasions and four wins. She is the only four-time winner here and appears to be a standout in Mondays main attraction. Jockey Kenny Robertson, her usual pilot, is again slated to handle the riding chores. Carco, a steady-going speedster, shapes up as Spring Fevers chief rival although he will have to be at his very best to humble the Blow Me offspring. Jockey Lyman Richards, who has been riding with considerable success at the local oval, has been assigned the mount on the Karrat Brothers standardbearer. Gunny Sack, who flaunts the silks of J. C. Baker, merits consideration on the basis of his commendable efforts at this course. He failed to get in the money in his most previous start but prior to that endeavor was victorious in a five furlongs test, covering that distance in :59%, fastest time at the meeting. This altered son of Halberd is real sharp and a peak performance is anticipated on Monday. Colonel Jet, who races in the silks of Mrs. A. Condon, should also be a sharp factor. This brown son of Jett-Jett registered a pair of victories at the Maumee course within the past week and trainer N. Newman has his charge ready for another tip-top performance. Others named to match strides are J. Cebulas Als Call, Frank Poulsons Barron Road and Sydney H., who races in the partnership of Fischer and Fruchtman. A pair of middle distance events and seven sprints are programed for Monday.
