Supremes Bub Captures Suffolk Feature Easily Ward Guides Odd-On Choice To 3-Length Reading Purse Win By FRED GALIANI Staff Correspondent SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 6. — C. H. Everitts Supremes Bub, backed into odds-on by the majority in the crowd of 15,382 here this afternoon, rewarded their confidence by rolling to a three-length victory in the Reading Purse. Under jockey Paul Ward, Supremes Bub took the lead midway of the backstretch, after racing Broommaker into defeat, then, even though he drifted quite wide, had a good margin at the finish. Second in the field of eight was Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Grants Africance, who closed with a rush in the middle of the track, while Henry Forrests Triumphant was third. Supremes Bub paid .40 after covering the six furlongs in 1:14% over a strip that still was heavy from yesterdays rains. Supremes Bub, victor in his first start here by four lengths, was winning his fourth race in six starts this year. He finished second to Curragh King in the Arkansas Derby, but had twice previously beaten that colt at the Oaklawn meeting. He is a bay colt by Sir Gallahad III. or Johnston, out of Supreme Way and was bred by J. R. Williams. Ward had Supremes Bub away smartly and Broommaker raced head and head with him for a quarter of a mile, then | gave up. Supremes Bub drew out into a good lead, while Triumphant took the overland route and Hokey Pokey kept on the rail. Africance was back in sixth place ! rounding the turn, but ready to unleash a run. Supremes Bub drifted out wide, but his speed was enough to overcome that disad-advantage and he drew out under Wards urging, who kept pushing to the finish.
