George R. Carr Elected Post-Paddock President Name Prominent Chicagoan Head Of Famed Arlington Organization George Russell Carr, prominent Chicago chemical expert and economist, yesterday was elected president of the famous Post and Paddock Club at a special directors meeting in the organizations offices at 141 W. Jackson Boulevard. Carr is the third president the club has had since its founding in 1929 at Arlington Park Jockey Club. He succeeds the late Laurance Hearne Armour, who died last December 29 after serving 22 years as head of the famed turf group. The first president of Post and Paddock was the late Paul Gardner, who directed the club its first two years, 1929-30. Other officers of Post and Paddock are Thomas E. Wilson of the noted packing family and founder of the 4-H Clubs, the only vice-president the club ever has had; Lawrence F. Stern, Chicago banker, who has served as secretary since the clubs founding, and John Bentley Gallagher, a director of Brinks. Inc., the Milwaukee Road, and Central Life Insurance treasurer. Directors of Post and Paddock, including the officials, are John D. Allen, president of Brinks; Britton I. Budd; Marshall Field, Jr., publisher; Leonard S. Florsheim; Weymouth Kirkland, a founding member and prominent Chicago attorney; John S. Knight, publisher: Benjamin F. Lind-heimer, executive director of Arlington-Washington Parks; Charles S. Pearce; A. D. Plamondon, Jr.; Daniel F. Rice, grain broker, and James Simpson, Jr. Carr is well known throughout America and Europe. He was awarded the French Legion of Honor in 1948 because of his substantial assistance to French railroads and the coal industry during Frances greatest depression. His association with his firm, the Fort Dearborn Chemical Company, dates from 1901, when he was graduated from the University of Illinois. Carr was born in Argenta. 111., the son of Dr. Robert Ferrier Carr and Emily Smick Carr. He was married to the late Kather-ine Mortenson of Oak Park, and much of their married life was divided between America and Europe. They had two daughters, Catherine, now Mrs. Robert Heinze of Pasadena. Calif., and Martha, now the wife of Dr. Omar Fareed of Beverly Hills, Calif., former University of Chicago athlete
