Ohio Notes ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, May 6. Jockey Eddie Plesa and apprentice Kenny Griffith, both being handled by agent Harry Washburn, will stay on here at Ascot Park until the conclusion of this meeting. They will then journey to Cincinnati and River Downs. Griffith is currently the leading rider. Agent Joe Daigle, who has been taking up a collection for the widow of Aullie Carr, announced that thus far he has 28.50 and is still plugging for the thousand mark. Trainer Pete Christensen shipped six horses over to Wheeling Downs this week. Two of the horses run in his name, while the ether four are the property of E. G. Hullcoat. R. E. Caldwell shipped five head in from Charles Town. Caldwell always annually is one of the leading trainers in West Virginia and his well balanced string figures to go well here in Ohio. Owner-trainer G. J. Dobkins has augmented his stable with the acquisition of Red April a three-year-old colt who he purchased from H. H. Fausett. Apprentice Kenny Griffith and jockey Eddie Plesa, two of the leading riders at this meeting, plan to stay here until Ascot Park closes on June 6 despite reports to the effect that both boys would go to Beulah Park to ride. At the conclusion of this meeting ,Griffith and Plesa will leave for River Downs. Agent Harry Washturn is handling the riding engagements of both riders. Judge E. W. "Ted" Stribling who has been serving as a steward at Ascot Park this spring will depart after the races today for Beulah Park where he fills a similar capacity. J Jockey Delle Jessop, who has been dis-playing fine saddle form here this season, won the 1947 edition of the Arlington Park Futurity aboard Piet. ♦ BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio. May 6. Among the latest additions tc the Beulah colony of owners-trainers is the veteran horseman, Fred Sharpe, who shipped a stable of nine from Keeneland. The shipment included his recently -acquired two-year-old, Good Time Winnie, for which Sharpe went to 0,000 at the Goodwin dispersal sale. Due to check in is the popular Gale Osborne, with a stable of 17. The Osborne J stable includes Harry-Lou, winner of the 2 Governor s Handicap at Beulah last year. Beulah Park recently was honored by y a visit from Miss Sara Lou Gettinger, the Franklin County, Ohio. Sesquicentennial Queen. She inspected all of the numerous improvements at the track and posed with several thoroughbreds for pictures, which are now appearing in central Ohio newspapers. Mrs. Barbara Harlor and Miss Jeanne Hamilton, who head the Beulah Park reservations department, report that advance reservations of clubhouse and box seat accommodations for the 19-day meeting opening May 9 far surpass those for any previous session in the 30-year history of the track. F. T. "Bud" Welch will campaign a stable of nine horses, owned by four different interests, during the Beulah Park meeting that gets away from the starting gate Saturday. Welchs patrons are W. F. Dutcher, Hislip and Gibson, H. E. Colcher and Myers and Wilkins. Trainer Joe Willis will campaign the stable of Mrs. J. L. and L. J. Knight at Beulah. Willis has a stable of four for his Lexington, Ky. patrons, who gained considerable fame in Ohio a few years ago as the owners of the consistent winner, Jacoboy. James Rigney of Covington, Ky., has checked in with his five-horse stable, which is headed by the faithful performer, Jumpy John. Henry Fields stable of three includes the good campaigner, Great Plains, which will be raced in Beulahs handicap division. One of the largest stables on the grounds is C. S. Robinsons. The Robinson menage includes 13 with Teddy Chick and Temporary being among them. Virgil Carmichael, a Beulah regular, again is on deck with five, including Over Again and Gold Piece.
