Garden State Grandstand To Be Extended 160 Feet Will Increase Seating Capacity Of Jersey Track by 44 Per Cent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 6. — Walter H. Donovan, executive vice-president of Garden State Park, has announced that the grandstand seating capacity of this plant will be increased by more than 44 per cent between the close of the current highly successful meeting and the opening of the fall session on October 8. The grandstand will be extended 160 feet on the north end. Steel for the construction has already been purchased and many other materials are already at hand to begin work in the first week of June. Mounting interest in the sport and a desire by the management to better accommodate patrons were given by Donovan as reasons for the major improvements. Among the new installations will be two additional escalators from the ground floor to the mezzanine and new escalators to provide transportation from the mezzanine floor to the skyline terrace. Garden State Park was the first track in the East to have escalator service. The skyline terrace, on the extreme top floor of the grandstand, was opened last fall. Its length will be doubled with an additional 440 feet and the cafeteria, serviced by H. M. Stevens, Inc., will also be enlarged. An entirely new entrance, duplicating the colonial style of the one in existence, will be placed in the new portion of the stand. Plans are also being prepared to build an addition to the clubhouse before the 1954 spring season, with coinciding improvements and expansions of facilities.
