: l I Chanlea, Correspondent Head 0,000 Westerner Sixty-One Named for 3-Year-Old Classic on Hollywood Park Card HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood. Calif., May 6. — Sixty-one nominations have been made for the 0,000 Westerner, Hollywood Parks three-year-old mile and a quarter classic, to be run during the 50-day meeting which opens on May 12. The list for the Westerner, which was formerly known as the Hollywood Derby, is headed by two Derby winners, Chanlea, who bested Merryman and Correspondent to earn the Santa Anita version for Calumet Farm, and Curragh King, who won the Arkansas Derby for Edward M. Goemans of Milwaukee. Several top eastern and midwestern stables have made runners eligible for the rich Hollywood Park event, including Maine Chance Farm of New York, Mrs. Ada L. Rice of Chicago, King Ranch of Texas and Woodvale Farm of Lexington, Ky. Indicating another powerhouse, Calumet Farm named four other fleet thoroughbreds in addition to Chanlea for the Westerner. These are Lap Full, their brightest two-year-old feminine star; Right Bright, Conjure and Bobaway. Hirsch Names Three Trainer W. J. "Buddy" Hirsch named a trio for the King Ranch in Resistance, Rejected and Postillion, the last named being a full brother to Assault. Maine Chance nominated Smart Apple, Flight Cloud and Super Jet, while Mrs. Rice is represented on the list by Mr. Paradise and Eternal Glory. Joe Luddy leads the Western trainers in number of nominations with five. He named Reighmus Fizz, Aptos and Late Excuse for the Yerba Buena Stable of Al Marsten, Flying Agent for the R. C Stable of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hoffman Jr., and Over and Under for Robert S. Lytle.
