Alerted Works Handy Mile In 1 :423/5 at Belmont Park BELMONT PARK. Elmont. L. I., N. Y., May 6. — Hampton Stables Alerted, who has no stakes engagements at Belmont Park, indicated this morning that he is about ready to resume his industrious career. The "iron horse" worked a handy mile in 1:4235 over the sloppy track. Breaking from the gate, Alerted went along evenly in fractions of :49% for the half, three-quarters in 1:15% and seven furlongs in 1:28. Alerted has never been a sensational work horse, and this was as good a move as trainer Ray De Stefanos charge usually puts in during the morning hours. Ben F. Whitakers Tahitian King, who passed up the Kentucky Derby after finishing second between Native Dancer and Invigorator in the Wood Memorial, turned in an excellent six-furlong prep this morning. The son of Polynesian, who is pointing for the Preakness on May 23, but may get a race in the seven-furlong Swift or the Withers Mile before that classic, was clocked in 1:14. and gave work-watchers the impression that he was regaining his good form. A heavy fog blanketed the two tracks at Belmont Park this morning, making it impossible to identify horses moving through the early morning murk.
