FIGHTING WISE worked his way forward to attain a contending position entering the stretch and, after taking command, gamely withstood PATROL WAGON. The latter responded readily when shaken for the drive and rapidly was getting to the winner. FOURLEAFCLOVER showed good speed from the start, but failed to rally when subjected to brisk urging. CATALPA encountered interference during the stretch run and failed to recover. CABLE BUG quit. TALI0N was unable to reach the lead and tired. FLYING TUCK was through early. FIRST DARE lacked speed. SUNNY AL was outdistanced early. CHERWELL was sent into closer contention after the third jump and held on willingly thereafter to prove easily best of the others. EXTRA POINTS assumed a commanding advantage soon after the start, bobbled on the eighth obstacle and gave way. BAND LEADER tired badly, as did SUN SHOWER. KASTER held a slight lead when set down for the drive, tired under pressure and was unable to withstand the top ones. ATOMIC FLEET caught only tiring horses. TEDS JEEP quit. TUSCANY alternated in setting and pressing the early pace, gave way momentarily to HYPHASIS at the furlong marker, then came again under brisk urging to gain the nod. HYPHASIS forged to the front when set down for the drive, gave way to the winner shortly thereafter, then appeared to hang when hard urged during the concluding strides. DARK PETER closed with good courage and gradually was overtaking the leaders. SAGITTARIUS was unable to improve his position when shaken for the ultimate test. DELEGATE was retarded when his left hind bandage unravelled during the running. SQUARED AWAY tired. TEA-MAKER was outrun as was MR. TURF. EARMARKED never was dangerous.
