Just Sidney Proves Best at Pimlico Shows Way Home 1 To Country Gossip Foales Mud-Running Son of Deliberator Gives Jockey B. Mitchell Triple for Day By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 6. — Proving a punctual favorite in a band of a half-dozen three-year-olds, William H. Foales Just Sidney this afternoon accounted for the featured Reisterstown Purse by a half length over Alex Bruscinos Country Gossip. Two and one-half lengths farther back in third position came Herb C. Boorses Uncle Ev, with Charles E. Wisecarvers Isle of Bond slightly more than a length behind in fourth position. Just Sidney, a mud-running son of De-liberator, was winning his second consecutive purse and was backed down to .60 by the crowd of 10,683. The victory was the third on the program for jockey Bobby Mitchell, who had previously won the third race with Mrs. George Brown, Jr.s Latitude and the fourth race with Thorncliff Farms Master Showman. Heavy rains during the night and intermittent showers throughout the day had the race track in a sloppy condition, but Just Sidneys five and one-half furlongs in 1 : 06% was only a fraction slower than Senator Joes track record. Carries Top Impost of 122 Despite his top impost of 122 pounds, Just Sidney was away alertly and was able to maintain a slight advantage over Uncle Ev while saving ground on the turn. Uncle Ev retired after about a half mile and Just Sidney was left with a two-length lead. Mitchell was well aware of the capabilities of the horses behind him and he roused Just Sidney sharply nearing the end to stave off the closing rush of Country Gossip, who turned in his best race of the year to be closing ground steadily. Uncle Ev, who had bolted in his most recent appearance, displayed no such tactics today, but he lacked the necessary staying qualities and faltered badly to be beaten three lengths for all of the money. Isle of Bond was unable to inject himself into the money picture, but was clearly best over the coupling of J. T. Kirbys Skin Junior and H. L. Townsleys My Pastime.
