Craig and Martin Star In Saddle at Fort Miami Each Brings Home Two Winners In First Five Races on Program By R. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent PORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio, May 6.— The two leading riders at the meeting, Howard Craig, and apprentice Gene Martin, dominated the picture at this track on the usual mid-week card as they each scored double saddle victories during the first five races of the afternoon. Craig, who is pacing the riding colony with 25 wins, had a consecutive double in the third and fourth races with a pair of favorites. He had W. P. Parks OSlam in front by three lengths at the end of her five and one-half furlongs journey as the filly paid .20. Howard then went to the front in the fourth with Little Robert and never relinquished command as the gelding swept to a four-length victory, paying .80 to the successful players in the crowd of 2,107. Martin, who is runner-up to Craig with 12 successes, had his winners split between Craigs double, when the little lad from St. Louis, Mo., handled Titled Miss to her upset score in the second, then got the favorite. Honey BUI, home by a short head in the fifth. Titled Miss returned 8.00 for her upset, while the short-priced Honey Bill caused a few palpitations to his backers before returning the .00 mutuel. Only Buddy Mills remains close to these two as the race for local riding honors waxes hotter and hotter. t r* MTI rC.M iir-- —
