Nine Middle Distance Runners Meet at Ascot Half Bar May Be Favored Off Winning Effort Last Saturday ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, May 6. — An evenly matched field of nine middle distance runners will face starter Eddie Anthony in tomorrows feature race. Of the nine horses entered, eight have been winners this year, and of the eight, six have earned brackets at Ascot Park this spring. The field is comprised of the following; Copsa, Sea Weather, Half Bar, Sudden News. Jack Carey, Scrimmage, Ivy Boy, Scotch Sour, and Oklahoma Kid. Half Bar, owned and trained by E. F. Lovelace, turned in an excellent effort here on Saturday when at a mile and one-sixteenth he defeated Hundred Proof by a length. In that event Jockey Eugene OKeefe broke Half Bar in seventh posi- ; .tion, but soon thereafter moved into con- | tention gaining the lead inside the furlong marker. Sea Weather was in a little over his head in his last race here and wound up seventh beaten 12 lengths by Scrub at six and a half furlongs. However, before that race Sea Weather had accounted for two victories here at Ascot and against a field of this caliber must be given a good chance at winning. Ivy Boy. a six-year-old gelded son of Flying Watch, figures well here also, he gained a length decision over Fiddlin Mac in his last endeavor. He was ridden by Eddie Plesa who is scheduled to ride the gelding back tomorrow.
